The whole whale thing is widely misunderstood anyway. At least up here in Norwayland we only hunt the ones that there are plenty of, and only within strict quotas every year. No different from hunting any other mammal. Furthermore, they are yummy.
Yeah...save the "endangered" whales...the right whale is seriously depleted, as are many other "great" whales. The killer whale is not, but I don't know how "tasty" they are, as it seems they are lightly hunted, if hunted at all.
The video is, as someone above implied, an amazing view of life in the wild. Fortunately seals are hardly endangered, and as everywhere in nature, violence happens. We know that killer whales are quite intelligent, as most sea mammals are...but their instincts are what they are, and no one serves them up dinner. When left to nature, nature prevails, despite our humanitary preferences. Killer whales didn't get their name accidently.
Actually the number of killer whales is declining and animal groups constantly petition to get them on the endangered list but it keeps getting rejected...
They aren't dying because of being hunted, it's all the shit that is being dumped in the water of their habitat. This larger breed of killer whales isn't under major threat as they live in deeper waters, but the smaller breeds are the ones who are suffering from pollution. They are pretty much the smartest of all whales since they can beach themselves and get back in the water....... all the others are too stupid.
Agreed, it is the force of nature. They are just hunting and eating, such as almost any other creature on Earth. What do seals eat? Are they any less aggressive when they need to secure dinner? Interesting video though, and glad they didn't drag it out too long.

I have this on dvd. Its a whole series called Blue Planet and this Orca whale goes on for some time with the seal pup. Their still not certain why the prolonged torture of the Seal pup by the orca happens? some people would compare it to a cat playing w/ the mouse before it delivers the death blow and finely eats the mouse.

These shots were filmed I think in Patagonia where pods of whales have been observed sliding up the beach to catch seal McNuggets.

You ever seen footage of Leopard seals. Which HAVE killed humans in the wild? Another superb example of pure, perfectly evolved raw predatory power at work. Not cute, simply awesome. To answer some of the discussions above, Killer Whales ARE the largest DOLPHIN, and have NEVER to my knowledge been observed attacking a human in the wild.
They have breached around canoeists and inadvertantly tipped them into the water, but NEVER a documented report of them killing humans.
In fairness Killer whales have attacked people in captivity, but then if you were an animal that can weigh upwards of 12,000lbs and were kept in a tank you could probably fill with your own piss in a month, then I'm just amazed more people aren't attacked!
Killer Whales also attack and eat Great White Sharks - just to put it in perspective. I want both protected!

They are nicknamed "Killer Whales" because thats what they do,,, they kill whales.... The messed up part about this video clip is that the killer whale is eating for survival...
