Obama is interested in doing something about global warming which is causing more intense hurricanes. No, he can't stop them, but at least he has an inkling of what is going on insofar as greenhouse gas affecting the global climate, unlike our current President Piffle W. Prattle, who jeers those who would consider the ramifications of doing nothing about it.

I just thought of the two or three insulated, narrow-minded nutjobs on these threads, who piss and moan and and/or otherwise bellyache about how "everyone outside the U.S. should shut up, mind their business and not comment on OUR business", and blah-blah-blah. This is a ridiculous, almost childish line of thinking, that I've already debunked many times over, and explained how and why the United States as a whole (yes....using that very large brush here) have given up the luxury of that rationale long, long ago. Even just from a "globalization" stand-point ALONE, it makes no sense, amongst other reasons I've outlined.

Be that as it may, I came across these items along that line:

http://worldblog.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/10/29/1600921.aspx

And THIS:

http://www.democratsabroad.org/node/7148

Ain't freedom of expression grand?

Seems like EVERYONE'S gonna have an interest or say, in what happens Nov.4th.
I intend to single-handedly defy the entire world Nov. 4th, as is my right as an American citizen. However, I shall endeavor to inform other nations how they should properly vote in the future, since you imply this is also my right.

Can Bush run for Canadian Prime Minister?
I think no one on the planet HASN'T an "interest" in what happens Nov. 4, likely as a result of having no one on the planet not hoping for or currently being aided by that country whose elections happen on that day.

With that wide a scope of hopes and expectations, we can hardly predict general satisfaction with the results, regardless what they are, can we?
Very valid point, Chaz.

But...I can only answer that with what I've already said:

With great power.....comes great responsibility.

This is always inevitable.

Cman - "Joe the Plumber" has become an icon of middle American life...sort of a window into how the "average person" thinks. He is now being exploited, which is semi-merciless, as he is neither a politician nor a public figure, so not accustomed or equipped to make the public pronouncements being demanded of him.

I thought he deported himself fairly well under the pressure exerted by "Shep", calling him to task for his "deadly to Israel" comments. I think he answered the original reporter's question honestly reflecting his perception of what Obama's directions were...not necessarily the death of Israel, but probably not likely to be a benefit for Israel (these are my words, not his....I am guessing his real intent, as most citizens tend to freeze or stumble when a microphone is stuck in front of their mouths...and fed a "loaded" question, as he was originally).

I guess my point is to suggest we cut him some slack. He probably should retire from the public scene, and hopefully the media will allow that to happen. If not, we can all expect to see the honest bumblings of a good guy......and by the way, at least his observations up till now have been intuitive, meaning a frank perception (right or wrong) of how the working folks see the candidates. With all this media exposure, he will not be a good guideline much longer, I think.
Well, ummmm...... Chaz?:

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/10/16/eveningnews/realitycheck/main4527129.shtml?source=mostpop_story

I know how you think my links to multiple news sources somehow diminishes my arguments (or so you've said, or something along that line), but with apologies...I couldn't resist this one.

I think the most telling quote in this article from "Joe The Plumber", whom you say "has become an icon of middle-America", is this:

"So today, Joe, who said he makes much less than $250,000, reluctantly admitted Obama would lower his taxes.

"I would, if you believe him, I would be receiving his tax cuts," Wurzelbacher said.

But that wasn't it for Joe last night."

And on and on and so forth.

Comments?

(Just skip over the end of the article, where it talks about him being being on some back-owed state taxes)
And speaking of Joe The Plumber (icon of middle-America):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j1TT7gt5F0w

(dammit! I jes' can't help muhself)

Do you think he got the memo? Or did he bail on McCain because his publicist fell asleep at the switch? Or was he busy filing taxing forms for his anticipated tax cut from Obama's plan? Or was he busy catching up on the back-taxes that he owes? Or was he tied up at that time with Shep Smith while telling him him that a "vote for Obama, was a vote for the death of Israel"?

Either way, this down-home working stiff shoulda been more on the ball.

(clearing throat here)

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081030/ap_on_el_ge/palin

So....THAT'S why she's been stabbing poor ol' John in the back....she's grooming herself for 2012. I seeeee.........

Well, that's fantastic! Seriously! Great!

After all.....if SHE'S gonna be the GOP's leader in '12.......well, we ALL know what THAT means:

Back-to-back terms for muh man Barack.

Awesome.

Eight years on a platter, handed over.

Just like that.
That's old news, C.

McCain won't last for 8 years if he is elected, so Palin will gladly take the ticket. Then you'll have Hillary. And it will be perfect because Hillary will finally win in 2012.

If Obama wins, on the other hand, it could be an entirely different story. Palin will run for Pres. regardless. Read her lipstick! She will seek pres'dency in 2012!!!
So if McCain wins, and we get Palin vs. Hillary in 2012, can we just let them mud wrestle for president? It would eliminate the endless political commercials. Write your congressman to pass a constitutional ammendment, that all chick vs. chick presidential campaigns must be decided by mud wrestling matches.

If Obama wins, and we get Palin vs. Obama, let them decide the presidency with an old fashioned duel.
HD...funny. Duel. Palen gets a shotgun with deer slugs, and Hillary gets razor blades. Should be a lot more fun to watch than some old boring election.

'Course........Palin is gone after this election...will disappear, like so many VP candidates before her. Doubt she will ever be the party's choice for high office again. Just my opinion, which I will change as soon as I see indications I was hasty...happens now and then and I try to keep it secret.

Checked out the link in Canuck's post above....bunch of McCain zealots roistering about and doing what high school kids do at football games.

If I'm not mistaken, there abounds similar views of Obama fans similarly engaged.

It's just the way things happen here....elections provoke very few cerebral convocations, but a lot of noise.

Hopefully, the underheard and understated will emerge, as they often have, and the vote will be truly representative of the American opinion.

Remember how, after all the hullabaloo, the Bush/Kerry deal was microscopically close. Neither party could or should have taken from this any sense of clear approval, despite what has been written by those from other countries (i.e., how the electorate put such a boob in office - consider their alternative).

I have said before, and recently read in someone's post, that it is the primaries that need correction....they yield these faulted candidates, and the public has so often been faced with a lesser-of-two-evils choice...hardly what the framers of the constitution had anticipated, and hardly what I and most Americans appreciate.

Chaz:

I think these are most consecutive postings I've ever seen out of you (lol!)

When I've watched the myriad of videos showing the McCain suppoters, I couldn't help but notice that they always seem to have a common trait amongst them (whether in Ohio, PA, Florida, or wherever): they spew a litany of hate, vitriol, anger and blatant ignorance. I mean, it's literally off the scale. Are there those on the Dems side who spout similar nonsense? Probably....but I'll tell you I've tried like hell to find ANY clips/evidence of this. You'd think that with the level of emotion this election cycle has stirred and in this day and age of technology, I'd be able to easily ONE example of it. So far, all I've seen offered is is a clip showing a few Obama supporters who are, at best, benignly idealistic and at worst, superficial. But to see any of them reach the level of outright venom I've seen in the McCain camp? No. Have you seen all of these clips?? I look at these folks, and it's hard not to believe that if any of them could get their hands on Obama, they'd honest-to-gawd string him up. I guess the word I'm looking for here, is "undercurrent"; See, I don't blame these folks for this undercurrent of hate they're wrapped in, so much as I blame the McCain/Palin ticket for stoking these fires in the first place. When you take a group of people who (in whatever ideological mindset) are already apprehensive, nervous, unsure....and then you start throwing out asinine rhetoric like, "terrorist", "socialist", "marxist", "communist", "muslim", "radical", etc.., then those same folks are going to happily board that train. McCain saw that this was getting ridiculous and out of control, and started trying to tamp down this nonsense at his own rallies (even getting booed by his own supporters!). By contrast, last night I saw Obama at his own rally, and when the crowd started booing when he mentioned McCain's name....he said right-off the hop: "NO...no...wait....you don't have to boo.....just vote." And then he carried on. He didn't get booed. He didn't have to look awkward doing it. He just said....."vote".

Yes, I DO believe there ARE saner minds in the McCain camp, who DO want to concentrate on the ISSUES and challenges, and how the candidate will deal with them.....like yourself, for instance. BUT.....it's become more and more apparent, that folks like these (and yourself) appear to be in the precious minority, and the rest, because of fear, apprehension or uncertainty....have already boarded that aforementioned train, that will roll along on that oft-quoted bridge-to-nowhere.
P.S.

Are you equating what these ADULT McCain "zealots" are doing/saying.......to what "KIDS" at a "high school football" game do or say? Are you saying.....well.....what ARE you saying?

Addendum to related issues discussed above:

http://www.iowastatedaily.com/articles/2008/10/28/news/local_news/doc49068f6ccce49245010961.txt

This is NOT something I will write-off as something simply in the usual "McCain/Palin Lynch Mob" fare; no...this is something I shall label as much, much, MUCH worse, as indicative of the far-reaching ramifications should this Party retain power:

The McCain Doctrine.
Canuck - I am honored by your attention...no lie. I can hardly respond with the vigor and resources you seem to have available, and you have made numerous observations that would require I examine each of your links in order to understand your conclusions that lead you to cite them - and frankly, I don't have that kind of time, or that level of intense interest...but just allow me to say this:

Without searching the internet for demonstrable support, I will simply state that I distinctly recall strident accusations of racism and bigotry leveled by Obama supporters against those who contested his candidacy, back to when he ran against a fellow (in its genderless sense) Democrat, Hillary Clinton, as well as during his current campaign. Meanness acknowledges few borders.

Joe the Plumber - in over his head, as I might have already intimated. Good guy, not ignorant, owes some taxes, which likely makes him supersensitive to tax changes...challenged Obama, then used first by McCain's campaign to illustrate their concerns, now used by Obama supporters as a, ah....mmm... just can't find the word....whipping boy? sham? huckster? shill? Well, I don't buy any of that...I think he was hijacked to become a media poster-boy all out of proportion to who he actually is...and who now labors under scrutiny and excorciation of "some" of Obama's fans, present company included. Never should have happened.

re: equating McCain zealots to kids at a high school football game - yeah, that's exactly what I was doing. I had a kid play high school football and know that all the kids' perspectives are enormously focused on their own school's success, and against their opponent. The kids would do patently stupid things to cheer on their own team and insult the opponents. Not surprisingly, this involved adults, particularly the parents of the players, who often lost all objectivity, and this phenomenom is manifestly obvious to anyone aware of how aggressively competetive high school sports can be. Too often, these adults outdid their kids in supporting one side and denigrating the other using blatanly offensive tactics. I hope my reference to that dynamic relative to party zealots is now clear. And you do understand, no one suggests that this is proper...but it is reality...hence my comment. Damn....why did I need to explain that.

Knowing how these "disputes" go with you, I won't look for an "OK"...and I really don't need one. However, I don't feel particularly warmed by your edgy, and to an extent, provocative commentary relative to my posts. I remind myself that nothing we say here has meaning, nor will make anyone change his/her view of the world and its events....so let us peaceably piss on each other's shoes and move on.

WAKE UP!!!

(Bet you thought I forgot about your daily "surge success" updates....didn't ya? Fat chance.) Here ya go:

"Updated at 6:50 p.m. EDT, Oct. 30, 2008

As the northern commander of U.S. troops complained about the security situation in Mosul, attacks there continued. Overall, at least seven Iraqis were killed and another 20 were wounded across the country. No Coalition deaths were reported, but the remains of an American civilian missing three years were identified; other remains found are believed to belong to his Kurdish fiancee.

The head of U.S. troops in northern Iraq, Maj. Gen. Mark P. Hertling, said that Mosul's security has been neglected too long, despite two operations in the city this year. He would like to see an increase in security personnel. The first operation was launched in May after a months-long delay. Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki had promised residents that troops would clean out al-Qaeda militants late last year, but abruptly chose to launch an ill-fated operation in Basra instead. The operation lead to weeks of fighting between followers of political rival and Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr. It ended thanks to a ceasefire brokered with help from Iran. The second operation was launched recently in response to an increase in attacks targeting Christians. Many of those Christians who fled the violence have yet to return.

Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction Stuart Bowen released a report that estimates private contractors have cost $6 billion or about 12% of the $50 billion set aside for reconstruction in Iraq. In other security news, U.S. officials supplement Iraqi efforts to guard the border by taking biometric information on men entering from Iran

In Mosul, two people were killed and six more were wounded during a roadside bombing at a traffic circle. A suspect was captured after lobbing a grenade at U.S. troops; no casualties were reported. Gunmen killed a policeman in Mansour and a civilian in Jamasa.

In Baghdad, a roadside bomb wounded five people in Fidhiliyah. A car bomb in Hurriya killed one person and wounded five. Security forces captured 39 people and seized a number of weapons, while Coalition forces detained another eight suspects. Also, a body was found in Ur.

Gunmen wounded three members of an Awakening Council (Sahwa) near Buhriz.

A roadside bomb blast in Abu Ajeel wounded a Kurdish policeman.

A weapons cache was found in Hamrim.

A large cache of weapons and ammunition was discovered in Karithiya.

Two men accused of cheating a contractor in Nasariya were captured in Basra.

In Missan, police found two sophisticated rockets.

Syrian troops left their border posts in a response to a controversial U.S. raid on a border town on Sunday.

Also, Palestinian refugees who have been trapped in refuge camps at the Iraq-Syria border for years suffered losses after a heavy rain caused flooding. The refugees were welcomed during the Saddam Hussein regime but found themselves unwanted after the U.S. invasion. No neighboring country will permit them entry, and they cannot return to their former homes."

Yup.

1. The taxation rates are actually compareable to U.S. rates: roughly 30%.

2. Car market is taking a hit right now, due to the current economic climate; I figure it's the same all over.

3. As far as car repair equipment goes, well, ever since we got rid of those huge wheels with the mice that run on inside of them, we've actually come a long ways.

I ain't kidding here:

http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/10/palin-fears-med.html

Bascially, Her Diva-ness is saying that her First Amendment rights are being "threatened" when members of the press criticize her negative attacks on Obama. The First Amendment is actually not that complicated. It can be read from start to finish in about 10 seconds. It bars the Government from abridging free speech rights. It doesn't have anything to do with whether you're free to say things without being criticized, or whether you can comment on blogs without being edited, or whether people can bar you from their private planes because they don't like what you've said. If anything, Palin has this exactly backwards, since one thing that the First Amendment does actually guarantee is a free press:

That has to be the nicest soliloquy anyone's ever uttered about me. A "talk show"? LOL! Christ......I'd be handing these Republican far-right neocon whack-jobs their asses inside of of twenty minutes, and of course, have many, many laughs at their expense in the process.

Remember in the Good Ol' Days B.I. (Before Internet), a lot of folks used to have 'ham radios'? They'd talk to to whomever as a hobby, sometimes even across the globe? Well.....I look upon this whole way we communicate as a different, updated form of that. Shit, look at the folks we converse with on these threads: we got people here from Germany, U.S., Canada, Great Britain, etc. I mean....what's not to like????

And because of this, there's a few on here (like yourself, for instance) whom even though I've never met...I still feel like I've come to know, vis-a-vis their beliefs and/or ideas.

But ya know what? I DO enjoy it. Immensely. And if some folks wanna squander it by being anal-retentive and juvenile...then so be it. I'll still be around to have a few laughs, and provoke dialogue.....know what ahm sayin'? LOL!!

Thanks again for the kind words, Amigo!

And someday I WILL be passing by your neck-of-the-woods!
