Well I guess I painted with too broad of a brush. I was angry.
There are big patches of ignorant people in every state. In fact, most big cities have a significant patch of urban core that is full of disadvantaged, desperate, ignorant people....places where it isn't even safe to go at night. And the funny thing is THEY vote Democrat (well at least a majority do).
So, maybe our democracy survives because these inner city poor people who have no hope cancel out these crazy rural people who put ALL of their hope in Jesus.

The living example of what's wrong with 'Christian' conservatives. They are no more an expression of 'Christian' compassion than Hitler or Stalin. Both of whom were extreme conservatives in their own ways.
Hold me! That is some scary shit. The thing that scares me is not their beliefs, it's the blind faith that they have. There is having faith in something and then there is blind ignorance. Just because someone claims to have the same faith as you does not mean that you should stop asking questions and blindly follow them. There is supposed to be a separation of church and state for a reason.
....just a small point I've always wanted to make someplace or other, tho' for sure, of small consequence:
....."BLIND FAITH".......is an oxymoron to the extent it means subscribing to a way of thinking without proof of its truth, and without seeing that non-existant proof.
"Faith" alone is an adequate term for what is meant.
And it would be better used that way.....since "blind faith" carries with it a certain perjorative aspect more akin to "stupid faith". And that, of course, would be an outright insult to whomever it is aimed at.
Of course, if the writer wants to perjorate the object of the notation, then
"blind faith" will get that done.....but let's all know the intent is to criticize stupidity, not faith. We, after all, own "faith" as a part of our existence...otherwise we'd not drive a car (faith that the other drivers are responsible), plant gardens, invest, write books, post on Glumbert, go to college, read books..........endless efforts involving a trust that some important aspect will reliably occur, and reoccur....without proof it will.
I suppose what I am getting at is people being blinded by faith or those preying on their faith. Faith is fine but I have an issue with people who make decisions blindly, biased on faith. You wouldn't buy a car because a salesman told you he was a Christian just like you... so why would you choose a candidate because the he is your "kind of Christian". Faith has nothing to do with running an country or at least it shouldn't. A candidate should be evaluated based on his merit, not what he does on Sunday morning.
I'm not out to bash the faithful. That's not what I intended with "blind faith". I'm out to bash people who are too lazy or afraid to think for themselves, so they make their decisions based on faith, even when the question posed has nothing to do with faith.
On another note never ever have faith in other drivers. Ever. Ride a motorcycle for few years and you'll agree with me. And we are not ALL stupid, but I can guarantee that none of us are as smart as we think we are :)
Ugh I hate that argument. I hear it all the time. The assumptions that other drivers on the road won't kill me, or the assumption that plants will grow is not FAITH. It's "confidence" or "an assumption". It's based on prior experience and things we can see with our own eyes.
99.999% of the time, I see people driving on the highway who aren't crashing and dying, so I have a high confidence that my odds are good and I take an educated risk when I drive. That is not faith. That is hope and trust. I admit I might get killed on the highway. A person with "faith" will not admit that God might not exist.
Faith is belief without evidence. PERIOD. And the ONLY examples we have of people of being sure of something without evidence are a) Crazy people b) Religious people
