I hate to say this but if even the population growth rates are correct, which they are most likely, then all of us college age people are going to have a rough time cutting out a future for this country. That's not to say you can't survive but think of what that implicates: If you find what you need, that means someone else didn't and either didn't get paid or didn't eat. What were talking about is reaching an exceeded carrying capacity of the earth, we can't all be here at the same time. End result is: a lot of us will not get what we absolutely need, like sustanance. That may not be so pronounced here in the United States and other developed nations. We are already in the club so to speak. I do feel sorry for the rest, it is not a happy picture that has been painted.
I think that as a student of technology that several people have valid points, one is some of the correlations and statistics are very much speculation, still the concept compared to the last 30 years is valid. The space shuttle is an old piece of equipment now and the Hubble is dated and failing. Bill Gates himself said at one time I would bet he wishes he could get back, that as far as he could see no one will need more than 735 MB's of memory in a personal computer. The very answers to the problems that face this planet and mankind in general are contained in the promise of the coming technology, when wale oil was the light of choice the hunted darn near every wale there was, then they found another source of light and energy, almost every old growth forest in Europe and the middle east is gone and much of Africa has no wood to burn, it is gone. You would have a tough time finding a cedar in Lebanon. I agree that the theories I was taught even longer than I care to remember still govern the universe and are just as applicable today as they were when I learned them, the question was put about where did we get information before Google? From books and from each other and just like Google it wasn't always correct. The Chinese are plunging head long into an abyss that they will not be able to stop once it passes a certain point, they are sacrificing their environment for progress, and there people as well. It does no good to have an uneducated 190 IQ. It means your bored and will soon run afoul of the law. It is happening in this country in inner cities everyday, without direction and an outlet intelligence will find something to do, if it is directed it may be good if neglected it could be very bad. I wonder how much longer the Chinese and Indian governments can keep a lid on the disparity in income levels in their respective countries? The have nots are going to be wanting what the haves already have and usually it gets to the point they take it despite whatever draconian measures are used to control them. Try and control a billion angry Chinese peasants, lots of luck. Still it is an interesting piece, Irish fiddle music sure sounds good on a Strad!
Yes, Mohicans soundtrack... Also, anyone finding these statistics intriguing should read Thomas Friedman's best-selling book, "The World is Flat." He goes into consdierable depth regarding such facts and discusses the implications these trends will have on the lives of Americans unless drastic changes are made. Time for our govt. get get its priorities straight; vote Democrat in '08 if were to have any chance of cleaning up the mess we've gotten ourselves into...

Do you not realize that these same things are going on in America? WE are destroying our environment and people in the name of progress? How much of Florida's wetlands have we destroyed to build condos and beach houses? Look at the smog in Los Angeles. Forests have been clear cut all over. How much longer can OUR government keep a lid on the disparity in income levels? The distances between the rich and poor in the US has not been this bad since the Gilded Age. I hate to break it to you, but it's America that's in the downward spiral. China and India are on their way up. In a matter of decades, the US will no longer be the ruling power in the world.
The background music is the soundtrack from "The Last of The Mohicans" movie. I have heard it a thousand times (and still do) ... I love that muisc and touching movie.
as a public school teacher and leader of rapid educational reform, I've added this link to a series of "short videos" on our website...please let me know if you know of any other great short but eloquent videos are available that represent global mindshift ala quantum physics and the blending of cosmology and science and religion as a basis for current elementary school teaching practices. thanks.
Great site, with one problem. In the end, the focus was on information volume with nothing said about quality--the capacity for information to actually inform.
And the fact is, there is very little going on at the present to give us a better handle on the information we need to live our lives in secure and satisfying ways--and there should and could be!
Have just finished reading Daniel Pink's "A Whole New Mind." I highly recommend it as do I also recommend Mindset by John Naisbitt. Both of these books along with Thomas Friendman's "The World is Flat" are excellent, well-thought-out commentaries on this theme. Pink's book, however, is hopeful and optimistic regarding the conceptual skills Americans will need in the new Conceptual Era. These are high-concept
Hey fergus01, these aren't opinions... this is actually what's shifting in the world today. Ask anyone who is working on census information, birth rate information, language usage information. It's happening, don't believe it, know it. You can check it out for yourself. It's for real. India is poised to be the most populated nation surpassing China in the next several decades. Still, the language of choice will be English whether in China, India, Sweden, among others. It's a brave new world for those who can deal with the shift. ; )
Apparently there are several individuals who have made posts here that are not aware that the trash they are reading in the "shift happens" piece is nothing more than a pitch for more socialism, and new world order control of the masses, and is more than likely a collection of half truths and unsubstantiated facts. The web site recommended ................(http://www.global-mindshift.org) .....heartily by another public school indoctrinated soul is a perfect example of another clever pitch for socialism by inferring that we need to change our way of thinking. Yes, from individualism to mind numbing group think, and ultimate slavery.
And some people wonder why the America of our grandfathers is all but gone forever.
The narrow facts are OK, but the message is totally bogus. We forget that there's no computer that knows how to think at all really, just to follow our rules, and the rules of the earth are changing ever more rapidly with economic growth. It's confusing... but the problem with continually exploding change is that it's confusing... Get the real facts and we'll want to teacher to hand out less homework for a change!
I have to disagree with some of the technical statements. I finished my Computer Science degree five years ago, which make it ten years ago since I started almost all of the concepts we learned in that degree are still relevant (NOT obsolete). Like: Ethernet, TCP/IP, Object-oriented programming, CISC processors still rule the world, Boolean algebra, Database systems, etc. etc. True they are working on next gen fiber, but many still fail to use first gen fiber which is decades old. The message is true, things change but not the way and not as rapidly as indicated here.
I believe the intent of this video is to create dialogue and challenge the viewer to look outside the box. Things continue to shift as they have always in history. Whether these facts are accurate or askew is not the point. Change is the only constant and in our generation change is happening quite quickly more so than at any other point in history, and will continue at an increasing rate.
Don't even think that just because something is scary that it is a conspiracy. This is not a conspiracy to bring on socialism. It is MERELY a collection of data. What we do with it determines whether it is dangerous. True, computers can't think, but that doesn't mean that they couldn't one day think. I personally know people who are working on this. They tell me that we are close. The problem is if we don't give the computers a conscience in the process, or leave them without external controls to override their potential actions, they may do something damaging to us or the environment.
I love the next "thing" as much as any other geek, but I refuse to buy into the notion that I have to change my mind along with and at the same speed as the rest of the world. I reserve the right to, and often do, step off the moving sidewalk and move at my own pace or even,(gasp) stop. The facts are fascinating, but one problem I have is with the inference that the future will pass you by if learn about the present. Not true. Everything I learned as a telecommunications engineer ten years ago is still very relevant today. As with any technology, you need to understand the basic truths before you can even begin to comprehend what doesn't exist yet. No teacher should be selling kids on the idea that "old" should be abandoned for the pursuit of "doesn't exist yet". The tallest buildings always stand on the deepest of foundations. A final thought; this change is only happening at this rate because of our ever improving ability to manipulate electrons. We are in a golden age of cheap, available energy. But for how long? Without the fuel, China, India, everyone goes back to where we came from, fast and hard. The shift will be as amazing, only backward. We'd all be better off if we all just stopped and looked around for a minute.
What you say is true. But what gets "conveniently" left out in the discussion about the "energy crisis" are the various alternitive energy sources available. We are a tough people who always find a way to prevail. I maintain that in such a crisis we will find a way to replace the energy that we now depend on. We have over 200 years of coal... and that is if all we burned was coal. And coal is much cleaner than opponents claim. We now have a practical way to convert water to hydrogen. Solar, water and wind energy are in abundance. The list goes on.
I would like to have this presentation to show to my Kiwanis Club with my laptop and projector. Many in my club, being older, do not have computers and this would be enlighting and also mind blowing to them at the same time. Please e-mail me on how I can down load this presentation.
...and performed by Dougie MacLean, totally talented Scottish minstrel. Anything on his indie label (Dunkeld Records) is worth every penny. I think Trevor Jones sort of understated credit for Dougie's pieces, which really are the most haunting and definitive of the entire soundtrack. If you really squint you can find Dougie credited down at the bottom of the liner notes. As far as the info-piece on accelerated change: this notion of exponential shift was explored beautifully way back in the '70s by Robert Anton Wilson (a true prophet of our time) in his book "Cosmic Trigger." As he pointed out, the thing about exponential change is that it soon gets to be a "Hold onto yer hats, dudes, this is gonna get rreally hairy!" kind of thing. Wilson saw bigger, more vertiginous shift sooner than has actually occurred... but I think the makers of this video has essentially got it right.
It is easy to miss the main message of this video. It is not that we need to be mindlessly buying up the next generation of high technology but rather that we be AWARE of change, of any kind, within a global context.
When US high school students cannot even name the country on their northern border, or understand WHY research and development is important, or even why their understanding of proper spoken English (*not* "yous" or "I seen" or "He don't never" spoken by those who have ENGLISH AS A MOTHER TONGUE), then we will become marginalized regional cultures, a society, and ultimately as a country/countries.
This piece is a great example of how the interpretation of statistics using questions other than those originally designed for the study can greatly DECREASE reliability and validity.
EXAMPLES:
The 25% of the population in China with the highest IQs is greater than the total population of North America.
Translation for teachers: they have more honors kids than we have kids.
[Real translation: There are too many unknown variables to draw any conclusions.
1. Students are not placed in honors classes based on IQ.
2. Most students don’t take IQ tests, so I’m not sure how you would even get this information. IQ and intelligence are NOT interchangeable. (Example: I am a member of Mensa but was never an honors student.)
3. What is each group being tested on? You can only make that comparison if the information the students are being judged on is comparable. In China the top 25% of IQs could average 110, while the top USA’s could average 140, or vice versa.]
[China will soon become the number one “English as a second language” country in the world. HUGE difference. Using the same statistical guidelines you could then say that the United States will soon become the number one Spanish speaking country in the world.]
If you took every single job in the US today and shipped it to China it would still have a labor surplus.
[No kidding. Their population is much larger than in the US.]
We are currently preparing students for jobs that don’t yet exist using technologies that haven’t yet been invented in order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet.
[That’s been the case since the dawn of the information age. ]
The US federal government spent less than half as much on research and innovation in education.
[Most research and innovation is done in the private sector. If you want to compare that research, you’ll find BILLIONS of dollars spent in that direction.]
1 of every 8 couples married in the US last year met online.
[There is no way you could even validate this statistic.]
The amount of technical info is doubling every 2 years. For students starting a four-year technical or college degree, this means that half of what they learn in their first year of study will be outdated by their third year of study.
[This is probably the most poorly interpreted statistic yet. The technical information you are referring to is mostly in programming and new applications. Those are not the baseic components of ANY degree program. That’s why students are taught theories and methodologies that carry over time. I have 3 degrees that span 15 years. Very little of what I learned has been outdated (And yes, one of the degrees is in IT).]
If you want to have some idea of what is in the real future for this planet check out my website for photos, description of a video and information that your government does not want you to see or read. This website depicts this planets future in a depth that is beyond most peoples comprehension. This website has no membership requirement, no sign in and I'm not selling anything. You just go to http://cosmostarman.tripod.com/ and check it out. The photos and video are real. The comments are my best analysis of the things I have seen and experienced.
Really, I cannot believe the reaction this video is getting from everyone. Maybe just a little bit on the irrational side. Do you really think this is mind provoking material and the reply prior to mine about government UFO cover-ups? What???
just think about this. throughout the hisotry of the world, the population has shot up at a rate much higher that the one at this moment. jobs were created in order for these people. to address the fact that 25% of china's pop with the highest IQs is greater than the pop of the u.s.- that is irrelevant because the education is so much superior in the states so the smart chinese are not as trained in school as the average american college student.
Yes, I know we have lot of excuses. None real, just our desired to believe we are the best… For while we were! I will be building the next generation of aircrafts (Velarus.com), probably in China… because cannot find quality partners here in the US.
The root of our problems will be China’s problem in another 50 years or so. Of course you do not want to know the root of the problem… perhaps one day you will be reading all about in Freedom TNT. Look out!
teresaPosted just nowHave just finished reading Daniel Pink's "A Whole New Mind." I highly recommend it as do I also recommend Mindset by John Naisbitt. Many of these posted(serious) comments are correct, beginning with the stimulating subject of US comparisons to China and India concerning relative intelligence, sheer numbers of persons, potential, and the near future(1-50 yrs.), each within their respective viewpoint or context; there are historic limitations overlooked, good and bad, which disrupt the best predictions or planning, including (or ranging from) individual motivation to effects of a pandemic; rarely do any 25-yr. predictions based on 5- or 10-yr. statistics matter or become proven correct, except those including error margins or excuses for totally missing their mark--most are forgotten or only reconsidered in isolated small groups after less than a generation(15 yrs);
however, all of you have said some partly or very correct ideas, and now it is for each of you to sort the priorities and the degree of emphasis of them, not by precedence only, so you will be even more accurate and benefit accordingly as you adjust your activities, plans, lifestyles, efforts, priorities.
Alane, I understand what you're trying to say, but to me it represents two-dimensional thinking. We haven't even begun to tap the vast potential of this planet for resources and food, not to mention other planets. The answer for when there isn't enough pie to go around is to make a bigger pie. My success doesn't necessarily portend your failure, C doesn't always equal B minus A.
When I was in high school, there wwas supposed to be a population explosion that was going to literally create such a high population density that each one of us would only have 1 sq foot to live in. This was arrived by extrspolating the existing acceleration of population growth. THe fear was that if we didnt embrace 0 population growth immediately that the world would be overrun by the year 300 (I am old and went to high school in the 1970's. THat did nto come to pass. This presentation is great and many of the things they say is true, but be aware of the fallicy of extrapolation, it is dangerous and a very small change in a single paramater will throw the whole supposition off. This is why some scientists like myself feel that extreme measures that must be taken instantly to avert global catastrophe are fallacious. I am not saying global warming doesnt exist but lets not run around whith out hair on fire. If you need further proof read "Future Schock" by Alvin Toffler. ANd don't come out of your isolation tank. The real issue at hand in my view is the issue of allowing the dilution of our resouces by funding the latest boom (China) while progress aids us all lets not be naieve enough to think that an Indian, or Chineese engineer will not do oyur job for pennies because his style of living is much worse then ours, if you want to live like the average Indian or Chineese citizen then by all means lets outsource our lives..
This is for sisley's question a while ago: The song is from an artist named Dougie acLean, and the album title is The Search. It is an album that was commisioned for the official Loch Ness Monster Exhibition. His works have been used in several different genre' of movies and on a few TV shows as well.
Whew... everyone is trying to predict what this is supposed to mean or decide what to do about it. We are humans... humans adapt, change, shift as they need to. There ain't nothin' to worry about. It's just thought provoking stuff whether the numbers are true or not doesn't really matter. I think the main message is that we need to continue thinking, adapting, changing, keeping our eyes open and not freak out when we wake up and everyone in our university is asian (UCI). Who cares? Countries rise and fall, ideologies rise and fall, religions rise and fall (fall of monotheistic, population controlling religion is happening now... sorry all you christians and muslims) ... it's just what happens. It's cool. Take pictures, use your journal or your blog, grab a video camera and tape it... we'll be just fine. Just don't get too comfy in your little job, be ready to have to learn new skills... be ready to commute to work on a bicycle... be ready to work from home... be ready to talk or video conference with people on the other side of the world for as long as you want for free... oh yeah... you can already do that.
Well, if computers can have greater computational power than the entire world population in a relatively short time, than hopefully my kids and grandkids will have a rosy future...one that will never be plagued by another stupid president like we have now. Computers will be able to solve all the problems that this presentation mentions. That is, if humans are smart enough to do as they say.
'thebigbadwoolf' above is perfectly right. But he has either overlooked or is unconcerned about a resultant problem that he, himself, will have to deal with, along with everyone else: What happens when people age 'past their prime' in a field of constantly accelerating change?
I happen to be an unusual example, being a former programmer (of the big IBM hardware) 40 years ago, who got out of the field before the arrival of desktop computers. I am reasonably, yet barely, functional with a Mac in today's world. Among my generation (and I'm 80), I am damned lucky . . . most are clueless. Sure, you younger folks will always be able to cope with anything envisioned today. But if you live to even 60, NOTHING now operational will still be around. And most of what is today envisioned will already be passé. Your present facility will hardly serve you at all!
Just to prove what I say . . . my world was filled with typewriters, phonographs, slide rules, gas stoves, stick-shift automobiles (with running boards!), not to mention 5¢ coffee, $1.50 steak dinners and gasoline at 20 cents per gallon. If you think that I feel happy or comfortable with today's world . . . hey, I stay off the highway, eat out maybe twice a month, and cannot stand the commercial:program ratio on TV, so I rarely turn it on. Radio? forget it!
So, yes, I get along, I get by, and stay fairly happy . . . but it's definitely NOT my world. And THAT is what you all have to look forward to. Unless you are fortunate enough to die before you get beyon 50 . . . which I don't really wish on anyone.
I identify with your experience. As an interdisciplinary educator (social sciences-humanities) I find the "spread" (not spreadsheet) of observations and comments interesting. They bring a wry smile. A suggestion: read Homer. See the parallels. Nothing has actually changed, only the appearance. Critical thinking within a comprehensive frame of reference is not sidetracked by trivia/information. CT considers concepts and values that can be illuminating to all generations despite the appearance of overwhelming information. Read a great book: Ethics and Analysis by Luigi Zoja, former president of the International Association for Analytical Psychology, presently head of its International Ethiccs Committee.--REAL ethics.

This video is Tantrum Physics. It projects a future that is out of your control. There is no shift of paradigm, if you continue to stick to the outdated concept of a Country and a globalised world with barriers to human mobility. Us and they?? Technology, knowledge and information have only deepened the divide. Throw your tantrums till 'they' don't stop you.
Fascinating! What does it all mean? Well, the intellectual will always use his/her intellect to rationalise his/her reasoning. Info overload has resulted in many if not most losing focus--there are simply too many choices for the average brain to handle. Frenetic intellectualism and hedonism have in a real sense hi-jacked wisdom with the end result becoming as inevitable as night following day. Regardless of what anyone chooses to say about these issues, we are heading for global meltdown--akin to being tied to a bobsled on a greased track with no brakes. The earth WILL wear out like an old garment and the people in it will die like flies. This is no corny, doomsday message, this is merely a comment on cause and effect. The earth is and will always be a finite environment and we are carrying on as if we have infinite space and choices to use/abuse that environment. There simply is no point in trying to tell all the "brainiums" they err in their statistical analyses. The time-honoured adage still holds sway...don't confuse me with the facts--my mind is made up. Happy tripping till the skids come off!! As for computers acquiring the sellf-aware, reasoning ability of the human mind--which is about as far removed from number-crunching as the east is from the west--far out man--far out! REAL cloud nine stuff
Two books that I would share with the whole world that would give us all the prespective we need to advance for the next 300 years, regardless of the changes:
The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey
The Urantia Book by unknown.
If anybody has any thoughts about these books, please post.
Hi! Just watched the video and read all your comments. Very interesting.
But has anyone wondered why the chosen piece of music was used? Maybe the real message was in the film............
Music fabulous. I have been fortunate enough to meet Dougie at his hotel in Dunkeld and attend some of his "ad hoc" performances. A tremendously under-rated musical genius. All of his work is exceptional, and the words to his songs all carry a message, if anyone cares to listen.
What people should really be concerned about -- worlwide-- is the exponential growth of Muslims. They are set to take over Europe, by numbers alone, and through terrorism.
While people worlwide are choosing to not have children, or very few, Muslim women have many!
If you think it doesn't matter, read :
America Alone by Mark Steyn and
WHile Europe Slept by Bruce Bawer.
Check outt http://thereligionofpeace.com.
Found this on a site devoted to LOTM - the song is
"The Gael" appears in two places in LOTM––during "The Kiss" and "Promontory". (The word gael means the Scot, that is, the Scotsman.)
Feonia, you are absolutely right!! Instead of fearing the future, and sacrificing our children because of so called "over population", we should realize that every baby, both in the womb and outside the womb are a blessing from God!! They are not an inconvenience to throw away because you think there are too many people on this earth. There is plenty of room for us all!! If you drive across the United States, you will see thousands of miles of open, beautiful land. It's just that everybody is piled on top of eachother in the big cities!!
So what? You know what all this means? Nothing. Most of this information is hardly that; it's all just guess work, hearsay, and statistics. Nothing that has any actual meaning. It's a waste of time. And did YOU know, forty years ago, people thought we'd all be riding around in flying cars? We'll just have to wait on that superhuman computer I suppose....
This has been a most interesting half hour or so of reading. I agree with a few of the posters. Thanks to Olsensteph for analyzing the info point by point. Which is what I typically do. This, however, is a little over my head but interesting and relevant and not-to-miss. I agree with some posters about the IQ question and the Chinese and Indian people. But it's like apples and oranges. We don't know what IQs are being used by either origin of testing and what the testing parameters are for each. IQ has little to do with Intelligence. IQ is a number. Intelligence (at least in my mind) incorporates book learning, common sense and life. When I was in high school (admittedly over 30 years ago) my IQ was 124. I've taken some online tests lately and I've dropped quite a few points. I am far and above smarter today, or more intelligent. However you want to phrase it. Maybe a little slower to call the info to mind. However here is an example: have you ever been outsmarted by a 6 yr old? I have. My grandson had an IQ of over 140 when he was 4 yrs old. What do you suppose went into the testing? The thrill of his life at that time was Toy Story. He was not a prodigy of any sort. He has a great capacity for reasoning, and often appears years older (in that sense only). But at the time of testing he was only 4 and in preschool. Based on that I don't put much into talk of IQs. You can talk up the Asian capacity for learning all you want but in the end everyone wants our brand of education or possibly what's available in the UK. And everyone wants our quality of life. You can throw our labor anywhere in the world, but if you're paying cents by the hour you're nothing more than a criminal. And the lack of quality in products coming from China? Well, the results are in and it ain't good people. If you're working for low wages making products you feel are frivolous and worthless, do you put your heart into it? Apparently not.
We need to put some discipline back in the schools and push education. We don't need to try to match another countries' stats. We don't live in those countries. Keep in mind there are stupid people the world over. Ever watch Jaywalking on the Tonight Show? It's mind boggling how utterly stupid some people are. But it's not localized. You can find it anywhere.
As for global warming, I feel that this is more or less (not entirely) a natural progression within the Earth's atmosphere. Wasn't the earth once covered with ice? Is it simply still melting? Has some geological phenomenom occured in which the natural progression "stopped" and crimes against the environment "started"? If technology hadn't brought us where we are today, what would the difference be? The forces of nature have caused more damage to the atmosphere and ozone than the forces of man. Nature has a few years on us. Think about it.
What does it all mean? It means we are gods in embryo. If people of past centuries could see us today, they would say we are gods. So why is it so difficult for people today to believe that we can become as God is after we are resurrected? Think about it. That's exactly what will happen to those who choose to do it God's way. Like Father, like children.
that is weird how there are so many text messages sent in one day, straight up crazy yo! well...... ive g2g b/c idk if coach wants me posting stupid comments like this one.
what that song=song-sing what it called what thx = china bleep==
while you talk and prove your stupidity
the top 25% of chinese are masters in their fields
while your chatter is centered around utter stupidity they are working at owning you
North Americans grow up today with the feeling inside them they
are the master race but in reality they are the rats that scurry around
while your masters become masters in ever field
1 in 500 of them is like saying 1 out of every 2 of you
you are correct in saying there will be too many people too many inferior people
what will the people that control the world the top smartest people do when
we can no longer support all the people
why it will be the dumb that are led to slaughter
it means you will be led to slaughter
remember this and stop worry about what that music is and begin to get a proper education the word proper is key
those that do not will live like rats in a hole or be eliminated
I hope it is clear to you all
already most companies are sending the jobs there where a chinese genius works for 10 dollars a day and is happy with it
remember that your days are indeed numbered
and your smug little lives will become meaningless and worthless soon
this is if you do not devout yourself fully to getting a porper education
remember we cant decide for you you must except your future for your self if you want to be a master or a slave in the future slaves will live in terror and not have what you have now even
American people today it does not get better for you than you have it now
only much much worse your must strive to make yourself a master
or els you will wish your were dead by the time you have grown up
those in 1960 we had many o[[rtinities I was lucky to have gotten a nice job with a 37$ an hour pay there will never come a time better then you have it now you must stay in school and get a masters or better to have a chance a degree will not be enough to asure you of anything you must have excelled in school to have the chance to become somthing in life
Ok, quadzillion more megabytes of information, but what information? the latest antics of Paris Hilton? the next adoption of Brad and Angelina? stupid home videos? Information is not knowledge.
and BTW alyssal, why not get a life off the internet? anonymity does not excuse stupidity
I found this short piece thought provoking, and the many responses it elicited revealed our collective heart. Futurethink is always intellectually stimulating, bringing either positive or negative reactions. However, our challenge as humans is and has always been to be stimulated by information like this to new action, to evolve rather than devolve, to bring the etheric "heart" into focus. The evolution of consciousness is the heart of the matter, not competition among civilizations that could lead to suffering, war, the destruction of Gaia, and ultimately our own suicide. Nor is it a question of what we all like to ponder: peace, love, tranquility. We are all subject to our emotional addictions, and don't you know that limits our evolution? For myself, my hope is that the intelligent ones, whether human or electronic, will guide us to positive evolution. The sensei question then becomes, "What does positive evolution mean?"
Prediction's hard-- one attempt is http://www.csus.edu/anth/NEWANTH/FACULTY/faculty materials/wheeler/Harvest1.pdf Footnotes suggest how many variables are needed.
IPCC has some, and shared the Nobel for it. As for computers not thinking, that's just more racism. Do humans think? Or do they follow rules, laws, codes of ethics, customs, leaders, orders?
Things one learns from this video:
Americans need to get up off their a$$e$ and get educated and go to work contributing something positive to our country.
Speak English, not Spanish, Spanglish or Ebonics!
Big government (liberalism/socialism/Democrats) is NOT the answer to our problems or our future.
Brainwashing our children with left wing drivel and revisionist history won't save our country or our planet.
The continuing Dumbing down ("equalizing", or whatever the teacher's unions want to call it) of our educational system is suicide.
When inner city kids criticize other inner city kids for studying and doing well in school, they are signing their death warrant.
The success and survival of the traditional 2 parent family will provide for the success and survival of our country. Parents that aren't smoking crack or working 24/7 for that new BMW or McMansion, that is!
The lack of respect for our fellow man that appears in our music (rap, etc...) and our entertainment is detrimental to our survival.
How did we lose our way? The steady shift to the left in our country over the last 40 years! And thank lawyers (and the media), too, for the shifting the burden of individual responsibility. One is not now apparently responsible for one's own safety, welfare, and actions!!
The answer is in our children. Feed them well. Teach them well. Do NOT indoctrinate them with left wing political environmental garbage. Tell them the facts.
BTW, stop paving over our farmland. When we are dependent on other nations for our food, we become prisoners. Just like our energy. Drill in Alaska. Drill anywhere in the US. And work like hell to develop alternate energy sources in the meantime! If there was clean safe affordable mass transit, many more people would use it.
Habitual Criminals and drug addicts have no place in today's society. There is no room for them. They need to Clean up their act immediately or Remove them permanently.
Two parent families produce fewer criminals.
ricardo is right --- this is the communistic one world government CRAP they are feeding our kids in schools to enslave them in the future when the elites will take and keep the spoils of the world. Don't let them poison your kids' minds with this stuff.
rosedenose:
Sound like another brainwashed socialist!
btw, Florida's condos and beach houses aren't built on wetlands. Fact, the Everglades were severely disturbed by the US Army Corps of Engineers BEFORE it was completely understood what the Everglades were and how they functioned. We are now attempting to rectify this situation.
Wisely planned development is a good thing. So is clear cutting to regenerate a forest when the desired species are intolerant (a forestry term that means they need sunlight and no competition from other trees).
well, I would like to say that I really like this video, but you have to take it with a grain of salt. these are all predictions, not fact. In the 50's everyone thought that by the year 2000 we would have colonies on the moon and be fighting off crab people from space or something. So you have to remember that just because people think it will happen doesn't mean that it will. no one can see the future, and the future is not set. just remember that
oh, and everyone, we know that the song is from "the last of the mohicans". we don't need everybody putting it in every other post. Believe me, we know, we saw it the first 3 dozen times it was posted.
Okay maybe you can say that it is a prediction but no one actually stated that we would live on the moon or stuff like that. It was just beliefs of crazy people. But your saying that none of this will happen. Nintendo now in the year 2007 has spent 280 million dollars to create and advertise the Wii and again the governemt only spent 43 million dollars. There were also no sociologist or people with professions in social science during the past. Now we have people studying the past and looking at other countries to tell us waht is coming to prevent it but it is inevitable.
Think of this in the 1700 there were somewhere between 700 million to 1.5 billion people alive. then in the 1850 there were about 2 to 3 billion people. in 1950 there were about 4.5 to 5.5 billion people and today there is more than 6 billion people on the planet. this is fact. We have decreased the death rate for people so they can live as long as possible and we have children being born left and right. Did you know that something that took over 300 years to accomplish and get to will occure larger in the next 50 years. with the exponential increase in the population the planet will be home to more than 14 to 15 billion people. that will mean famine, war, and over population.
india's population is large and there are millions of super smart kids coming from hundred of nations. through sociology the facts are seen and all the information either becomes possible or has already begaun to occure.
hey motorphilia u don't like what u here then shut the f*** up and get the F*** out. don't come in here with that bull shit cuz u bit**. aight Fact R facts get over it
As of 6/10/2008, over 3,600,000 people have viewed this. Think about the comment about England in 1900 as opposed to where they are today. Day by day, year by year, the changes in their society were small and fairly imperceptable. But look where they are today vs. 1900. What happened? Is the same thing happening to us in America?
There are currently activities taking place that are lowering the world population drastically but our government will not talk about it and they try to kill the people who do. Take a look at my website at http://cosmostarman.tripod.com/ You may not agree but you need to know. Best wishes.
