I think it's a real CRYING FUCKIN' SHAME the WE got cheated out of having this man being born a Canadian. He showed far more class, intelligence and honesty, than the the opportunistic, gutter-sniping harpy he was debating with.

I know next to nothing about US politics, but it seems you have a good chance of appearing reasonable if you don't believe in fairies or that the world was created 6,000 years ago! I watched a programme on BBC about Thomas Jefferson - what a man! OK, you aren't going to get somebody like that in a hurry, but the modern crop just look like pale imitations of greatness in comparison.
In my lifetime there's been a mixture, from buffoons such as the two Bushes, Carter and Ford, through unprincipled criminals like Nixon and warmongers like Eisenhower to the unfulfilled potential of JFK.
But to be honest, from what I've seen, neither McCain, Clinton or Obama is going to set the heather on fire.
Here in the UK, we've had a mixture of unprincipled idiots, incompetents and fanatics, so we're really no better.

I feel like saying "Don't vote, it only encourages them," but when you look at all the places in the world that have fought or are fighting their bollocks off to get the vote, that sounds shit.

BTW, we don't attract the strongest leadership candidates because most strong personalities screw up in their youth, testing the limits of acceptable behavior. It's a maturing thing, and seldom survived without scars. Our media, and typical oppositional tactics, assure the skeletons will be yanked out of the closets and exposed in the worse possible fashion. Who would ever want to risk that tearing experience to family and social life?
So, we end up with her Thighness Shrillary, the oily-slick and totally inexperienced Obama, the elderly John McCain (who rides on his exceptional military career), and now, the annoying flea, Ralph Nader...Huckabee is a decent, but definite, loser, as is Ron Paul.
McCain is a one-term candidate...a chance to re-assemble our leadership structure and have decent candidates emerge in both parties...one hopes.
What I genuinely can't understand is why it seems Ron Paul had all the right ideas, came across as incredibly erudite, genuinely without guile and got absolutely shut down by the main stream media?
He was visible online and clearly attempting to hook the younger libertarian voters, but then it all seemed to go pear shaped for him in the real world despite his views seeming to be based on common sense (although possibly a little idealistic); esp with reference to the war and the Fed
What gives? The outside world only saw what was allowed unless they went online it seems...or is this just conspiracist bunk?
How come a lot of folks are always using the term "inexperienced" when it comes to Obama? WHat does that prove?
Lots of Presidents got elected with very little "experience", and went on to become strong, decent leaders.
