From source: " In this video I am the instructor. The camera is on the left side of my head. The points of contact were the top of my head and his ribs. I heard my neck break and, I was paralyzed instantly. The legs you see flopping around are mine. My emergency parachute opened around 700'. I was fully conscious until hitting the ground."

Pretty much one of the most terrifying things I've seen as of late.

Wow! Very impressive! How did you open the parachute?
a lot of parachutes now have an altimeter built in. If it detects you are below a certain altitude it will trigger the chute to release.

Did the other guy run into him?
Well that seals it. I am NEVER going skydiving(not that it was ever a question, I get nervous on a step stool)
that is so heartbreaking to watch. and the text told me what i wouldnt have known just by watching it. this was very powerful.

What, no one posting "first"?
Only for the funny clips hey?

Respect. Enjoy your 8 remaining lifes, you've been blessed.
blessed? I wouldnt call not being able to walk or move your hands blessed.
Moron.

He's alive.

If you think being able to move your arms and legs is more important then being alive, or if you think a person can't contribute to society after a terrifying quadriplegia, you're wrong.

I'm not handicapped... nor have I ever known anyone handicapped (at least to that extent)...

But life is so much more then the physical.

I agree hossrex........

I bet if it were you worldcitizen, you'd be counting your lucky stars and thanking God every day that you were alive. Alot of people die from accidents far less damaging than falling out of a plane, breaking your neck on the way down and then smacking the ground with no control over you body.

Grow up.
Some people may not want to live that way and I certainly wouldnt count it as a blessing.
worldcitizen, I think he's trying to say it was a blessing he survived, not that it happened in the first place.
Being a healthy person, with full control over your bodily functions, its easy (and juvenile) to say "I'd rather be dead".

If something of this sort ever happens to you, once you're finished moving through the stages of grief, you'd certainly be very happy to be alive.
i certainly would want to be dead.

saying you would rather stay alive as a quadroplegic (voluntarily) just shows you are EXTREMELY selfish. You would become someone ELSE's problem for the rest of yours or their life.
Oh bullsh!t!!!!!

Anybodys wife/husband would relieved that their partner survived an accident that paralyzed them from the neck down. If something happened to my wife i'd rather her be here with me than be dead.

You obviously aren't married and if you are, you don't take your vows seriously....... remember, through thick and thin, in sickness and in health.

Read down further and look at the post from peakunder. Good on you mate :)

ahh, you must be an american

It didn't look like you two collided but I'm guessing that must have been what happened. It was so quick. Yea that certainly doesn't make me ever want to skydive. So sad when things like this happen.
so whats the point of flopping around until the last second,
looks more like he planned on opening at a low altitude.
might as well flap your arms and fly...
His neck was broken. He couldn't move his arms or legs. It wasn't like he intended to just flop around all the way down. LoL. Learn to read.
That was fucking stupid!
i broke my neck and was completely paralysed at the age of 15 in 1967. i was told i wouldn't see 35 - i'm now 55. i was told i would never have children, i married in 88 child born 89. i have several 'o' levels, 'a' levels and a degree. i've flown a glider, i've driven across canada twice. i've worked full time for the last 30 years, i own my own home, etc etc etc. nuf said.

Here's a medal, now stick it up your ass, oops, have someone stick it up your ass.
Wow, even if you are joking, you are a waste of flesh. Some quadreplegics may be a burden on a person in their life ( I don't see it that way, but it happens), but YOU, you sir are a burden on society as a whole. I'd rather be a quadreplegic than even be associated with you. Obviously, you have more than a medal shoved up your ass.

Also, my grandfather was a quadreplegic (due to polio) for 33 years and worked every day of his life, had children, and contributed to society in more ways than many able-bodied people. No one ever wished he had died and I don't think it would be selfish of him to want to live. You have obvioulsy not had someone love you or love someone enough to understand that concept.

My post was not to brag, but to let the freefalling guy know that life can be good, very good, even if paralysed from the neck down. He will know doubt have to travel the path I did of all the emotions you could list, but as the Spinal Injuries Association state: there is life after paralysis. Now where's that medal, my ass can't wait - make a change from my suppositories!

peak = you are (no kidding) a class act - not taking offense at that jackass who posted above... thank you for leading the way!
Too funny peakunder!! lol
to the rest of you - it appears that the two people did (must have) collide(d). that doesn't happen, if you aren't so proximal to anyone else. I jumped once, with two of my dearest friends. We jumped tandem with divemasters who steered us all apart first, and the rest was a simply incredible time!
Well then, I guess he must have collided with a bug and the force snapped his neck and then he became paralyzed..........

You idiot, how else could this happen???
Of course divemasters aren't gonna let you drop near other divers. Accidents do happen you know.

least it didn't hurt when he hit the ground
1 year ago
Yes that's true 'uhhhdude' and I found it quite funny too but then, I've had 40 years to 'get over it'. I doubt if the freefalling guy will laugh at it just now, but if he looks back at this in a few years time and is able to laugh at the statement you made, he will know he has truly accepted his lot and is getting on with his life as he should.
