Howdy chuck! Let's brush up on what a "theory" is....
Theories are coherent, well-substantiated explanations. Gravity, or the "law of gravity" would be one of those. Because we understand gravity through a theory (gravitational theory) but yet it is literally "in our face" as far as "proving" it. To complicate this further, a "law" is a statement or principle that "describes" a phenomenon, therefore is NOT a theory. We all know what goes up must come down, yet we don't really know for sure why. So theory it is for now.
Evolution is no longer a theory, due to recent advances in genetic research (molecular biology), we can now clearly see evolution at work. We can now manipulate genes and create new forms of life, just like natural selection does, only much quicker, evolution by design if you will. To the subject of human evolution, again through genomic research, and not to lesson the impact of Chaz' comment but, we are evolving right now, aka "mutating" and faster than ever! Recent data shows that over the last ten millenia, human evolution has occured a hundred times more quickly than in any other time in human history. Researchers have found over 2000 genetic adaptations that control virtually every aspect of our functioning. Shockingly (to some) all this info shows that we are in fact evolving away from each other, contrary to what the the status quo has been, that we are mixing into a single mixed humanity. So theory it isn't since we understand the why and how.

If we view the US economy as a big ship, with the whole population on board...then the elite are up on the promenade deck and cannot see the millions of tiny holes in the hull. They notice the ship is slowing down, no new stuff is arriving at the banquet room, and is the deck a little tilted. So they they think that the quickest way to save themselves is to get to shore, so they add more fuel and try to get the boat moving as fast as it can go.
But the millions of tiny holes in the hull (private debt) may cause the ship to sink, but the weight of the water is now added to the ship, and it barley moves.
The captain and crew send down plugs (stimulus checks) to the people in steerage so they can patch the hull, and to engineering to start the fuel pumps (lending). Problem is that the plugs are too small for the individual leaks, and the rich are putting the fuel into their jet skis (TARP), and most of the pumps are broken or barley running (failed and surviving IB's).
The deck crew reports that many passengers below deck have drowned, and that more leaks are forming, so the captain and crew order more fuel, and more speed be added to reach the safe harbor.
The captain and crew are amazed that no matter how much fuel they add, the boat continues to slow down and sink. One of the crew (Mr. Ron Paul ) says why don't we plug all of the leaks first, and worry about safe harbor later? He gets shouted down by the engineer (Mr. Bernake), and his surly crew, who are planning a fancy dress ball for the new captain and the rest of the crew.
The new captain states he will get the ship to safe harbor with a new idea, he will add much more fuel than the last captain, and the ship will get to the safe harbor. He sends crews to the engine room and to the pumps, and they report back that the ship is taking on water from millions of tiny leaks, and perhaps if we plugged all the tiny leaks (jobs) then the ship may make it to shore.
The shouts of the drowning people below decks cannot be heard over the noise of the fancy dress ball, and all of the jet skis, and the activities of the four percent of the passengers on the top decks. The party go on and on...
What will happen to the ship, will they continue to add fuel to the engines, or plug the leaks?
BTW, Inuit Indians have better blood circulation than the rest of us, to protect their extremities from the cold of their environment, you know, an adaptation. Also, Just look at the spread of sickle cell anemia and its causes and the regions of the world and the people are prone to it. Evolution as a word is just a theory, but the proof is in the pudding! Also, some genetisits beleive that in 100,000 years or so there will be two complete and seperate species of human, a tall thin smart race, and a short stocky, beta race. Good thing I'm 6'4'' and svelt, suck it asians! Now wheres my battle axe! HAIL!!!!

Nice to see chuck and podman here. As re: the Q-person's parentage (referred to in chuck's post), I'll add my view that, if there were indeed two people involved, they did not know each other, much less him. I tend to believe Q's parentage included a petrie dish somewhere or other.
Pod.......neat metaphor. I think it's expecially difficult when the captain's role switches from one to another midstream.....the former departing from a well intentioned but poorly advised adventure that has gut-shot the country, and the latter having promised nirvana with little understanding of what he was dealing with.
I didn't vote for him (underexposed, underexperienced), but I WILL give him the time needed to show movement in the direction of recovery, however slight that may be at this time. If, for lack of effort, he fails to move congress to recovery measures, then will I begin to gnaw on his ankles.
pod ... vivid analogy, but overly optimistic ... you forgot to mention the waterfall just around the bend which is called commercial mortgages and securities ... but back to the fiasco at hand: turns out america only enjoyed the illusion of wealth...no real wealth has been generated in this country since the year 2000 ... we have been using 2nd mortgages as rocket fuel ... unstable and highly combustible ....
