So why do these movies cost so much to make?

3 actors 3 days = $200 million?

Now THAT......was an amazing piece of filmaking.

Shit, I wish I had the technical savvy to do this; I would love to have been able to recreate Juno Beach for the Canucks.

The Omaha Beach recreation was amazing, too.

The Canadians pressed farther in land on D-Day than any other allied force did and faced the toughest resistance next to Omaha.

That's right!

Except I didn't want to be the one to say that, because I think I already got enough of a repuation of having a big, fat yap.

(Which I kinda do, come to think of it)

This movie is way better than the remake of The War of the Worlds" movie I watched this weekend. I cannot believe how washed out the special effects were in this movie. If it wasn't for that little girls acting (Dakota Fanning) saving the usual non-acting Tom Cruise (worst actor in America), the whole mess would have been a total loss. Mr. Spielburg should be ashamed. The one made in the 50s was better.

Saw this documentary on BBC a couple of weeks ago. Harrowing story of course. I didn't think Hammond was the right man to do it - a bit lightweight - but he made a pretty good job of it.
Apparently Eisenhower allowed for 6,000 casualties at Omaha, and the final figure was around that. Very sad. Lots of tales of individual bravery, but ultimately a tremendous loss of young men.
