That's what I was wondering at first but I think they are riding on the wrong side of the road or something. Either way can't the cops just say something out loud before just knocking them over?
Good for the cops. The bicyclists break the law all day long. They must obey traffic signs just like any other person on the street. If you have ever been to NYC you will see that they ignore all the traffic signs and lights. Also, there is no audio on this tape, I presume the cops told them to stop.
Oh boy here comes another story....back in the day...I was not taking much shit from anybody, which most definitely included any asshole (as compared to good) cops....anyway to make a long story longer, I was riding my bike with some friends, we were just slowly riding downtown in the hot summer when we passed a guy getting his butt beat by two cops. We stopped and watched for a minute when all of a sudden one of the cops decided he didn't like me watching, he came over and pulled up on my bike giving me an instantly higher voice! I've been know to have a "switch" that when "thrown"....well it ain't pretty...so off the bike I go with a fast spinning back-fist...one cop down one to go...the other drew his gun on me, not being faster than a bullet (or stupid) I quickly regained my sanity and gave up. Now you would think they would've beat the shit outta me for that, but the cop I put the move on was sputtering around with a severely broken jaw and that was where the other cops attention was. Soooo, with a good load of adrenalin I put another slick little move on cop two, breaking free I got on my bike and (I think laid rubber) got the hell outta there! Sounds like BS doesn't it, LOL it's not! Trust me that cop deserved what he got and later was trashed in the papers and fired for other brutality...now that's justice!
I've been a victim of brutality & I was a teenager at the time. I was handcuffed & beaten down on the spot. Then taken to the station & beaten up again in hand-cuffs until I started yelling & the other cowards came running to see what was going on & they pulled the wannabe hero off me. No one did anything or say anything to me. I reported the complaint to the nearest local station & the guy spent 5mins looking through a complaint procedure book then told us to reconsider it before making a statement. Talk about covering their own @553s & the rest of the cowards. I'd given up then & there... police brutality is real & it MOFOs don't discriminate!
Not stopping on a bicycle when a cop tells you to stop is the same as not stopping in a car, or running away. Expect to get knocked down or grabbed. Expect to get some force used on you if you are trying to elude a police officer. Fucking assholes.
Sometimes, bikers deserve it because they just get so out of hand and out of control, thinking they're all environmentally conscious so they feel like they can zip in and out of traffic. A lot of them really piss me off.
Dunno exactly what particular infraction those cyclists committed, but what if one of them fell and just happened to sustain a fatal injury upon impact? How will that officer possibly justify his actions?
Fire this particular fucking, sonofabitch-disgrace IMMEDIATELY, based on this video evidence alone (the statements of those surrounding witnesses notwithstanding).
Critical Mass is a bike inspired way to block traffic in major urban areas. In SF they do it all the time; riding through red lights, not stopping for traffic, not obeying the rules of the road. My gas tax pays for the roads they ride on, Im all for the cops clobbering these idiots who fail to have any common decency.
Just for the record, I don't run red lights or stop signs. But if the fact that some people do do that justifies attacking all people that use that method of transportation, then clearly you should also support shooting all the people that drive on freeways because some of them speed. I mean, some people nearby might have broken the law at some point, so they should all be roughed up, right?
Do you understand how many cyclists are doored, hit, cut off, and disrespected on a daily basis? You drive a two ton machine we are on a 25 pound machine. There is a lot more danger involved in riding a bike. Because we're socially responsible and care about our personal health does not give you the right to be a dick because you pay for gas. Your gas tax most surely DOES NOT pay for roads. Taxes to the government do, which means that everyone is paying for those roads, including cyclists.

(see above posts) ... this has been a long-standing problem in large cities ... without a doubt, the brutality is wrong ... the problem is that when these punks acts like assholes, how do you stop them? ... you can't take down their plate number ... they all look alike when they buzz past you ... these bike guys and girls do some pretty awful shit to motorists and pedestrians alike ... how are the NYPD supposed to legally stop this?

I'll guarantee you that the cyclists that got slammed in the video had been ordered by a cop to stop, and kept going, and another cop stopped them.
What an IDIOT. If there's a HUGE crowd of cyclists you don't CONTINUE to move, you stop your car, turn it off and wait until the mass passes. It's like trying ot drive through a parade. Just because it's in your way, doesn't mean you have the right ot interject the gathering. He HIT cyclists, he deserves what he got. Simple as that.
I had a bicyclist interfering with a crime scene, one day. I went after him, on foot, orderd him to stop, and he took off. His appearance was pretty distinctive. I saw him again, just as I was clearing the scene. He saw me and my partner, and took off. Can't outrun a Crown Victoria on a piece of shit bike. We stopped him. I cited him for no helmet, disobeying a police officer (misdemeanor crime), no hand signals, and arrested him for the weed he had....Dickhead.

Admittedly, I've seen many idiot cyclists taking stupid risks but 95% just ride because it feels good, keeps you really fit and is as cheap as it comes. Cyclists have to do what they can to stay alive on roads when there are no bike lanes. The world shouldn't be designed for cars only.
Bicyclists should follow the rules of the road. I agree with this statement yet find it ridiculous because in my experience no one follows the rules of the road. Can we get Jay Leno to do a Jay Walking "Traffic Laws"? That would be stellar. Yet??? You can hear the cop say no, or at least I did, barely, when I used my nice headphones.....How could someone have heard that on a bike, with shit in their ears, in New York, in the middle of a busy street? I know some douchebag bike riders, and I know some decent ones. I live near one of the worst cities for bicycling, seriously...Memphis, look it up. People around here treat bicyclists like shit. Not enough details...
