No, they call themselves Black. And most of them, at least my friends, joke openly with white people about being black. Things aren't as touchy up here about the white/black issue. I mean, it exists, but definately not nearly as strong and people usually make borderline racial comments/jokes mainly because we it so outlandish/outrageous to think that way thay we all know it's a joke. Having said that, of course there are still ignorant people here and racism is still an issue, but it's mainly against the Aboriginals in our country, sadly.
Its like GAY people calling each other Faggot or Queer! Or like Mexican people calling each other WET BACK or SPIC, Or Jew's Calling them selves Kike wait a minute am I from the south or right off the PLANTATION.
The n word is out of control. Why are blacks so intent on using the word in virtually all of their dialague, particularly with hip hop lyrics. Hip Hop culture is thrown in my daughters face via xm radio and she asks the question, "why do blacks call themselves N's." I yanked xm out of our house and vehicles. It is one of those words that makes our skin crawl and albeit for the black population abusing the word relentlessly, we should not continue using the word so freely. White people should be shot for using the word in a negative context or in any context for that matter. And blacks should be reprimanded for teaching our children (black
The N word should be abolished!!!!! Its not ok to use it, ever! It is not cool, it will never be turned around to mean something different. It makes you sound ignorant, and to think it desensitizes the word by overuse by black people is ignorant.
I will not allow any of my friends to use the word in my house....I will not allow my children to use it...I will not allow them to buy records with the word in it, and thankfully, my teenagers are educated enough to remember what the word once meant. You kids are probrably all too young to remember the movie Roots...but I assure you, once you watch it, and educate yourselves on what things were once like, you will not use the word again.
The first time my son...who was six at the time learned the n word, it was from a black friend of his down the street on Martin Luther King day. I drug that little kid into my house and asked him why he taught my son that word...as polite as can be, this 10 year old , in the most polite way, tried to tell me that ...he knew it was a bad word, but it was only a game....they were N knocking on doors. I was so mad at him and told him never to use that word around my house, and if he did, I told him I would go straight to his mother's house. He never said it around me again, and instead always greated me with a hug and a huge smile. Sometimes as he got older, he would joke around with us about prejudicial issues, but I think even as a teenager I know he remembered that day I was so upset with him.
Henry grew up and one day tragiclly, he died in a car accident last year on Christmas day. He was only 19. He had so much charm and personality, and so many friends. The funeral was held at a charismatic church in a black neighborhood he used to live in. The Church was filled with almost his whole high school class-predominatly white. He had soooo many friends, because of his charming personality, and his caring nature. Even through our grief, we praised God, as he was taken to heaven. It was amazing to see the hearts softened in these “”tough” teens with their tatoos and bodie piericings, as they all wept with sadness because of the hold that drugs and alcohol had on their lives, and the terrible tragedy of Henry being gone. It was reality hitting them hard, and as tough as they were, they just couldn’t handle this. It was a terrible time for everyone that knew him, but his parents welcomed droves of teenagers into their house everyday, to help them with the grief, for weeks, even though their grief was ten times worse. The kids learned so much about Gods love, and Henry's Love for them, through the pastor and his parents. We are all one, when tragedy hits. I told a lot of them that day after the funeral the story of Henry and the N word, and I asked them to not say it again to each other…not in a joking matter and to just get it out of their vocabulary once and for all. Henry had enough respect to not say it in front of me, and I think that we should respect the African American race as a whole, and live the example of having respect for everyone. Henry never really knew predjudice…he joked about it, but like most kids their age, they have no idea of how terrible it was for the black race in the past. It is nothing to joke about, or try to desensitize in any way. It is what it is…. A word that should be abolished.
We will miss you Henry, and tears are streaming from my eye's as I write this, because we will always remember you!!!
We need to teach our children and the next generation of children respect for every race. Prejudice will prevail if we don't stop it NOW ...with this generation. Rise above it...and abolish the N word!
It has no place in anyone's vocabulary...black or white.

The n-word issue is really just one of many examples of how blacks have been oppressed by a racist society. In many cases, unfortunately, we don't even see although it is played out in our everyday lives. The history of our ancestors and even the true history of the United States has been hidden from us. Just got to ask! why this does not make me mad? It just dont make me angry. don't know why? it don't make sence. If your black , your black and if your white, your white.... so what? Now what does make a difference is your self worth and what you give to our community. being in NOLA Iwould say there are not racial issues that go back centuries. There are only Nieghbors wanting to help. VIVA NOLA.
I am so sick and tired of this PETTY argument on just a word. We should be more concerned with what a person does to you than what he says. What ever happen to STICKs AND STONES WILL BREAK MY BONES BUT NAMES WILL NEVER HURT ME! Lets get over it!
" The word Nigger" is associated with a time when the blacks in America were lowly belongings, not valued human beings. For a someone (a non black someone) to use that word in an aggressive context is reprehensible. It tells them you are dropping them into a class just above domestic animals. For another black to say it IS different. Do I want to hear it in the music I like - no. But if I hear one black guy call another black guy 'nigger', I don't even think about it except for a little bemusement of how they can get away with it. But if I were to hear a white guy call a black guy nigger, I'm taking a step back from that stupid white guy and acting like I don't know his stupid ass. Is it fair, no. So what? Deal with it and mind your self.
No more Ofay, Honky, etc. OK? No more automatic prejudice against the white person. No more automatically assuming that any person not "of color" is deeply racist. Unconsciously racist, just like you, certainly. And this was a very funny and actually informative video. Thank you, bro. OK, let's get rid of bro, too.
