Before we all start criticising these women, it should be noted that they are suffering from a rare condition.
It has the technical term "Fucking stupid bitches."
I think all of you who are critical of these women , I would want to ask how many of you have real babies and can't even afford them.
I have seen so many who have babies and the tax payers are supporting them.
I can't afford a real baby and I plan on getting one of these dolls. I did lose a baby and I am well aware that no doll will take the place of my baby. I don't need society to dictake what is appropriate and what isn't.
We have baby killers, rapists, and families that do not take care of their infants or have others caring for them .
So keep your wise comments to yourselfs. Some of these women do have children.
peacegirl -
I apologise if my "cuss words" offend you. I still maintain that this way of dealing with loss - if that is what it is - qualifies as stupid. No-one has a monopoly on grief.
I liked the Hannible Lector baby at 7:35. And taking a baby to a shark and stingray tank is the first thing I'm gonna do if I every slip up and have a kid. Fake or real.
But seriously, how OOC is this? I feel badly that some women out there needs this and even worse about the fact that this chick preys on them.
Weird stuff. My sister had a baby that died shortly after birth. She had strep throat early in her pregnancy and didn't go to a doctor until too late. The poison from the infection caused the baby to develope without a brain, just a sac of fluid where the brain should be. After the baby was born and died she became a germ freak and developed that hand washing OCD, her hands looked like raw hamburger for years. Therapy and drugs helped a lot but the passage of several years was needed to get her back on an even (sort-of) keel.
Lady I'm sorry to hear about that, how terrible for her, and the whole family. I hope your sister has been able to heal. Time passing, moving further away from a horrible event, is really the only thing that does any good.
I knew someone who had a stillborn birth. The family dressed the corpse, cooed over it, took family photos... Some people do not let go easily. Even wild animals show emotion by trying to "awaken" the carcass of their newly-born, but dead, offspring. Are "they" crazy for being effected by young death, or are "we" crazy for calling a dead body "dead?"
Hard to believe they all got through this video with a straight face.
Arse nailed it, though I try to avoid using his wonderfully emphatic phrases. I mean, if any of these characters were truly serious about what they were doing, gawd....how pathetic.
wait did she adopt the faux kid? What the hell are people thinking? Get out of the BI's and tour the 3rd world and help a real infant, stop thinking about herself.
Hey! You can leave these babies in a parked car or throw them from balconies. However, I doubt that one would want to let them spend the night with Michael Jackson - not without boiling them afterwards. Maybe Britney might want one or two in place of her own!!!
it's the perfect baby, eternally sleeping. I kind wished my son could have slept until he was 5, it was hard because he only slept 2 hours at a time for his first 2 years.
Allrighty then......shall I begin. I actually have a few comments for earlier images, but I shall begin at the end. How dare you say you are even in the tiniest bit entering the realm of Motherhood. You wish to order them off a shelf, quiet and nice, and not too loud!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, pleassse. You continue to suggest that your are doing some mothering parts. Go back to the playground, ********** Now, on to earlier bits. If my child died in infancy what would I wish, what would I do. Dunno, I luckily haven't been there. touch wood. (no jokes please, awww, nevermind, shouldn't be so serious should I, make jokes if you like). Anyways, bottom line it smacks of 'Pet Semetary' to me. If my child died and I didn't immediately kill myself after I would only want her back. Full stop. So there is some room here for understanding I think. However, it's not healthy. In my opinion. Dolls are for children, normal process of growth and all that. Adults depending on dolls I don't think so. However, if I'm sick or my husband is away, I still hug my best friend 'ruffy'. He's a stuffed animal I've had since I was three. So who am I to judge.
Riza - I have a question. Do you think people are more psychologically fragile now. It seems to me that the farther we get from our frontier roots, the weaker we get. In the pioneer days of this continent death was very much a accepted thing, and just as a part of living and ending.
Now it would seem that we are so isolated from death that we have become paralyzed at the very thought of it. For me growing up on a farm meant constant exposure to birth, death, and deformity. I have a very organic view of life and death, and am often bewildered by the general outlook of the public on this issue.
My mother lost my sister age 2 and my dad in one month in 1944, hundreds of mothers and wives lost children to simple things back than.
I can't see having a replica helping to heal, it would seem to prolong the pain.
Riz, I so agree. "Mothering" these dolls could never be even the slightest bit close to being a real mother. With dolls, you have a choice. You can sleep if you're tired, you can eat if you're hungry, you can save it all for a day when you have the "energy". Real babies don't allow you that luxery. And unless you have to put aside your own wants and needs to take care of that child, you are not even close to being a mother. The people who feel some sort of nurturing satisfaction from a bunch of plastic are suffering under a delusion. But, as you said, we cannot judge. If it brings them some happiness, so be it. Although I also agree with you, it doesn't seem to be a very healthy thing to do, as far as mentally. Anything that fake, that seems so real to a person, maybe they should re-evaluate.
Yes, we are definately generally in denial over death. I don't think we are made of strong stock now and are completely out of tune with our natural existence. Boy, I'm struggling to find the right words to describe what I'm thinking. Without the wine I seem to stumble. I thought I just played pool better with a few in me.....guess it applies to writing too.
It seems to me that people who want to be moms are making decisions that aren't based on logic. That's one of the reasons why moms are so incredible. Moms, and those who want to be but can't or won't be, _are_ delicate, and always have been. Many more moms died in childbirth in the past. Like 6 out of 100 in 1915. That's a lot of moms. They also would have lost their baby. If a doll helps or fills some void, maybe that's the way to go. As I said, logic doesn't necessarily inform the choice to become a mom. Let them do what they need/want to do.
ok first of all you shouldnt be so judjemental. and this is a beautiful artform. and at least these people are collecting dolls and not something worse i guess if they wear on drugs they would be less weird. take a look in the mirror befor you throw stones everyone has something.
It's a shame that none of the people here making their little snide remarks about those Ladies that Reborn dolls or own a Reborn/Newborn, will ever get a chance to see one in person, let alone OWN one of those Beauties. Yes, I am one of those Artists that Reborns /Newborns Dolls. It takes a steady hand, patience, and the love of the art-form to re-make a doll into a "Life-Like" baby, NOT everyone is talented enough to bring a doll to a real Life Like look. Some Reborn Artists do it for the money that can be made in this art-form, other's (like me ) Reborn for the pure pleasure of the beauty that comes from this Art. I've seen these dolls sell for as much as $6,000.00 or more, it depends on the Artist and how Great she is in this craft.
So, my advice to you all is "don't knock it, till you've tried it, or at least gotten to see one of these little creations up-close and personal.
The one woman wants all the attention a newborn brings to it's mother, but none of the "real" work. That couple is one of the most selfish couples I've ever seen. That said, I guess it's a damned good thing they don't breed. Who knows what they'd add to the gene poole!
This is nothing but grown women playing with Dolls, know matter how life like they are.If they can't have children, then adopt, and don't be so god damn selfish by trying to get attention by pushing a piece of plastic about in a pram. How do they actually feel when someone comes up to them and goes "ohh, you have a baby. Can i have a look at him/her?" then they see it's nothing but a doll.I'd be very uncomfortable if i was that person.
Took the words right out of my mouth. I was really surprised how well received the dolls were once people (in public) knew they were fake. I mean on one hand they ARE getting attention, but in the end its based on a lie.
I could understand a doll collector wanting one of these. As an art form the coloring and texture of the dolls are beautiful. They remind me a lot of Ron Muek's work.
In the case of the women in the film, I completely agree with mitercut's mention of Münchhausen's syndrome. It seemed unhealthy how attention centered it all was. Even creepier is the fact that on the doll maker's web site you can order dolls meant to look seriously Premature. http://www.babybuntinsnursery.com/babies/Theo/photos/ Someone needs help if they only want the attention a sickly baby could bring them.
If a baby has been lost a reborn seems like it would just prolong the grief and keep the mother emotionally attached to something that didn't exist.
For all you people who have taken the time to be rude, disgusting and immature about this. I have a question, what do you care? This isant you life. You don't have to agree with this but you should at least have respect for people with differn't beliefs then your own. An opinion is one thing but calling people stupid fucking bitches? Come on.

There are quite a few people who are mad about these. It seems a person either falls in love with them the minute they find out about them, or else feels creeped out.
I have one, and I love her, but I don't take her out of the house (well maybe onto the porch once in awhile).
I can understand the creeped out feeling as well, but I think those who are maligning the women are probably the same ones who have something bad to say about all kinds of people.
