I may not agree with all of his politics but the man has my respect. When people make fun that he cant raise his arms above his head I dont even know what to say.
What if he was alone in the Oval Office, and someone left the nuclear launch recall codes up on the top shelf? Or is he meeting with some foreign prime minister from a culture that finds it a declaration of war to fail to high-five in greeting?
We can't risk it. The safe vote is for someone with normal working arms. Obama in 08!
I agree with ares,,,i wish all could have the common respect that the man deserves. He has served his nation well,,, in war,, in the senate,, and now in his bid for the presidency...
Unfortunately, John Mcain was ordered (drafted) to bomb Vietnam by his government. His is truly a brave man .Many Pow never left the Hanoi Hotel..His fathers political importance did ensure he was treated quite well. Some speak of coerced propaganda tapes, codes and records that were later confidentially sealed .No French or American troops should have been forced to fight there in the first place. It was all a travesty born from the fear of a viral Communism shift in the region. Some 200,000 South Vietnamese soldiers, 1 million North Vietnamese soldiers, and 500,000 civilians were killed; 56,555 US soldiers were killed 1961-75. The war destroyed 50% of the country's forest cover and 20% of agricultural land. Cambodia, a neutral neighbor, was bombed by the USA 1969-75, with 1 million killed or wounded. Although US forces were never militarily defeated, Vietnam was considered a humiliating political defeat for the USA.
I will always remember the day of your speech to the USAF Academy (in the fall of 1997) when you were presented the Thomas White Award for your contributions to national defense.
Most telling, you chose not to dwell on your own sufferings as a POW.
Rather, you told the story of those who fought, and died, on Ko Tang Island, Cambodia, while attemping to rescue the hostage crew of the American cargo ship "Mayaguez".
You reminded us of the Marines who, in the confusion of battle, were left behind and captured by the Khmer Rouge... They are not forgotten.
God. Thought I had already respected this person, but had not this personal tribute to his dedication to his country.
We need dedication. Politicism be damned. I look for dedication beyond comfortable rhetoric. I will support a stupid patriot over a slick wannabe. And he is not stupid....but the other is slick as snot.
Perhaps McCain's total dedication to his country might overwhelm the political inclination to self-agrandisement, self-adulation, and such.
I do not hate Obama. I do not even dislike him.
I look forward to a tested, caloused, hard-assed representative on the world scene. One who says, "let us come together to talk" and actually means," let us come together and if you want to posture and do bad stuff let it be seen on a world stage" (the PR people would need to make that a bit more media-friendly).
But, that's just me and my thoughts. Truman is no longer on the ticket.
this must be the "october surprise". I commend the man for what he has been through and his dedication to the country. However, this alone does not qualify him to be president, nor does it make him more qualified.
Perhaps one might point out to you for your better understanding, Vietnam was occupied by the French before the US became involved.....obviously this film involved their spokesperson.
Yes, I know that the French occupied before...it seems like, however, that the film was designed for a french channel...see the FR in the corner. Thats why I was saying damn frenchies.
It does make McCain more qualified to be president than Obama. It demonstrates the service McCain has given to this nation, in military uniform and out, which Obama has yet to demonstrate.
