Being first seems less important after watching this. Are you ashamed?

This was very hard to watch, children are the same all over this earth, they miss their parents, they pay with their lives for a chance to eat, sleep and stay warm.
It's killing for nonsence.

gymyg I have been to many 3rd world countries, and you will find the same kind of children living on the street.
Through save the children and my help when I was in Kathmandu we put 6 street boys into a school system where I would pay $20 Canadian per month per boy to cloth , feed and pay for books and school. They all were happy to be going to school while I was there trekking for 4 weeks.
When I left a friend Utse who was the Dali Lama's body guard called me in Toronto saying the boys are back on the street two days after I had left and what should he do.
I had an other contact through Sir Edmond Hillary's foundation and his Nepali wife ,I asked if she could send her brother who was in charge of the police force in Kathmandu . If he could scoop the boys up and return them to school . Nothing happened they refused to go to school .
These boys [9 yrs old to 12 yrs old] didn't do drugs yet, but drank the cheap Nepali beer , hung around begging or stealing then took the money and went to their favorite thing to do which was going to the movies. These type of children if they survive anywhere in the world become thieves, traders, prostitutes and killers.

Thats why in latin america the police are disposing of them .
I am sure this happens every where.
For me personally it is very sad and I try to help where I can . But I know in my heart they are dead people walking ,sad but true. Sorry to tell such a sad storie........

This shows that our value of life is far greater than theirs. That's why it seems so sad to us yet the man at the end is comfortable with children being burnt for stealing a crappy cap. This is how they live (and die) and always will.

If this makes you feel uncomfortable, contact any of the many charities which run Aids orphanages in West Kenya near Lake Victoria, get on a plane and do something about it!

Maybe if Kenyans stoped believing in the "virgin cure" - the idea that having sex with a virgin causes you to get rid of AIDS. Or maybe if the governments of Africa and Muslim Imams and Catholic Missionaries stopped rejecting the use of condoms to slow the spread of AIDS. Or maybe if the tribal warlords in Africa would stop trying to enslave other tribal members and force them to work in diamond or gold or emerald mines and instead try to bring sanitation to their villages. Or maybe if those same tribal warlords stopped their child soldiers from using rape as a psychological weapon or as collective punishment. Any or all of these changes would curb the spread of AIDS but nope, that requires the people of Africa to get along and governements of these nations to stop being corrupt and take responsability.

African leadership has a role in the dehumanization of its people. Perhaps the decisive role.

One despairs of a remedy.

If they (their leadership) do not respect their own people and their well-being, how can they be taught to do so, and is it the responsibility of others to attempt to do that, and haven't outside efforts already been shown to be unproductive?

One despairs of a remedy.

It is true that there will always be world demand for African resources...diamonds, oil, and other precious goods...but can the purveyors of these goods be moved to bettering their culture, country, and their own people. We don't see that happening in the oil-sodden middle east....it is doubtful to happen in the undeveloped African world, it seems to me.

The leaders have unimaginable benefits (think Dubai, beyond even Bill Gates, who at least is devoted to returning much to the needy), while their unlucky countrymen lack for food and potable water...still.........and unendingly, it appears.

One despairs of a remedy. Catholic charities, Gates charitable funding, and so many other US based support systems continue to operate...but...

one despairs of a remedy..............

nicko that is too simple . They are human beings ,with no direction ,love and proper nutrition or anything to stimulate their brains.
You need caring people on the ground where they are, to help them .

To Nicko - you will die alone and probably crying, it is the path you have chosen.
