the biggest problem that I have with information presented in this type of forum is that a person can make statistics and numbers say anything they want ... leave out some crucial details and that piece of information can indeed be 'shocking' ... for example, the whole gun-death issue in America ... it so happens that people that want more gun control give some crazy number about how many children die each year by guns and they fail to mention that they consider children to be anyone under the age of 21 ... well, that includes soldiers, gang bangers, etc ... so, bottom line ... we can make stats say whatever ... just my take

Hardly a viable option, seeing as how the entire mainstream media practically climbed into the sack with Georgie-Boy and his henchmen from the get-go, thus abandoning their duties as objectiive members of the so-called "Fourth Estate".

FYI:

Right after Secretary Of State C. Powell's testimony at the U.N. re: Iraqs supposed WMD's and subsequently ALL of the media outlets hailing this as a "triumph of truth", and were waving the flag wildly at every turn (testimony which was long-since discredited).......

The Independent (the link to which I provided above) was one of the few media entities to call it like it was: bullshit. As a result, they did their jobs, and asked the hard questions, and demanded hard answers. But no one was listening.....because they were too busy preparing for "Shock-And-Awe".

I'd say that alone gives them somewhat more credibility here, than most.

C - The media feed Knight Ridder did not go along with the rest of the pack. This D.C. based news feed service was swimming against the tide all the way, and was continually fighting to get the message out about the blatant falsehoods promulgated by the other outlets.

Good to hear that there were at least a few other outfits out there, Pods, that still had some guts and common sense left.

Wow, that was very interesting to read canuck1963. I see this with my own eyes being an American that has the ability to travel outside the states often. Its really all about choice because the same crybabies complaining about poverty keeping them fat are the same people spending more money on fast food than I do on groceries. Its natural selection taking place after too many years of coddeling and making people comfortable with their piss-poor life choices.

Also, there is Frontline, a program produced in Boston and supported by PBS. It was as cautious as could be expected for a investigative documentary program could be.

And then there is one of my favorite TV news outlets "The News Hour" also on PBS. The interesting thing about this program is that there is no spontaneous and unending editorializing as all of the other news outlets do.

If news anchors are graduates with journalism degrees, then it does not show, or as I believe, they are taught to constantly insert their personal and corporate bias into every report.

This form of incompetence reaps huge rewards, so almost all of them do it. For example: Katie Couric (CBS news) is earning $50 million per year for her support and delivery of yellow journalism.

Well, Pods.......that's my whole point:

In Couric's case, it took $50 million bucks to buy that sell-out whore.

I hope whoever her "John" was, he got his moneys worth.

It is her moral bankruptcy, but its not really her fault though.

It is what the public wants. They want the tabloid bitching more than they want real information. Most want the lie and fantasy, and not the truth.

I remember a bit of information that the tabloid rags, have higher circulation, and sales than real newspapers. I would guess that this is true in visual media as well. There is some link between ignorance in America, and tabloid/Hollywood crap. From my observations, I also think this is mostly driven by females.
