Guess what I'm working on today...Here is a short quote:
Subtract line 11 from line 10 and enter the result in line 12. If Schedule D, line 12 is a loss and Schedule B, line 21 is less than %u201C0,%u201D omit Schedule D, lines 13 through 15, enter the amount from Schedule D, line 12 in Schedule D, line 16, omit Schedule D, lines 17 through 21 and enter the amount from Schedule D, line 16 in Schedule D, line 22, and enter %u201C0%u201D on Form 1, line 24. If Schedule D, line 12 is a gain and Schedule B, line 21 is a loss, go to Schedule D, line 13. If Schedule D, line 12 is a loss and Schedule B, line 24 is %u201C0%u201D or greater, go to Schedule D, line 13. If Schedule D, line 12 is a gain, and Schedule B, line 24 is %u201C0%u201D or greater, omit Schedule D, lines 13 through 15 and enter the amount from Schedule D, line 12 in Schedule D, line 16.
Does anyone else on the planet have to deal with this US income tax madness? I would really like to know.
No ones taxes are as complicated as mine, trust me. I have tried H&R blockheads, an accountant and TurboTax.......the verdict.......TruboTax hands down! They (or it) found more deducts and got it finished faster, not to mention the business version only cost me $109.95!!!! Three years in a row now, I actually look forward to doing my taxes, two months early!! I own a corporation, have employees, stocks, bonds, homes, rental props, you name it it's all covered! Yes I pay hefty quarterlies but hey, I can sleep at night!
canuck has a neat trick for dealing with his canadian tax returns. he lets his wife fill them in. then the taxman writes to say he is taking pity on the retard who filed them bingo!!
pod,
It ended for me about 5 years ago when I just gave up and started paying H & R Block..... done in 20 minutes, tax refund in my bank account in 7-10 days. No stress.
deb - If my taxes were like the old days of a w2, and a IRA contribution, then it would be OK, but these past 10 years they are always too complex for the cheap software, and to much for the paid tax preparers, so I take a run at them myself, and then if I can't get it to work out, then I have to go to my accountant, who is very expensive.
For the past three years I have made a mistakes, and they figure it out. But its THEIR tax code and if I have to work for free for three days to give them money, then they get what they get... I think I have it correct and done for this year, but one year I had to file over forty forms for the state return! I had to add bulk rate postage to mail it in a huge over stuffed envelope.
The odd thing about taxes is the odd use of language, and logic. so even after checking it over three times, there are still doubts on if its correct.
