hidden, just a thought I would like to throw out there. A long time ago, a person I respected said something to me that seemed to make some sense. As a non-believer, I asked her why, if there was a God, he allowed so many awful things to happen, to children, to innocents. Her take on the situation was that God is concerned with our spiritual growth, our spiritual understanding, and the eternity of our souls, but not concerned with everyday earthly occurances. That part is up to us, and we were given the freedom of choice in those matters. If there were anything, in my whole life, that would steer me toward an acceptance of a "God", that is what has passed through my mind on the occasions I ponder the question. It is the only reasonable explanation for the horrendous things that sometimes happen, such as to this young lady in the video. To believe wholeheartedly that God "wanted" this to happen to her, and he "planned" for this in some grand scheme, and that it happened for a "reason", would at the very least lead us to believe that God has a very strange way of showing his love for his children. Did she do something to "deserve" it? And if so, what could possibly have been so bad to warrent such punishment? Does the young man "deserve" for his entire life to be ruined because he made one sorry choice, one night, out of thousands of nights when good choices were made? There is no sense, no rhyme or reason, no grand scheme. As chaz says, it's just "life". We can only do the best we can, enjoy the good, suffer the bad, and look toward the next day.
I'm only gonna say, as far as the girl is concerned, that its not me so i cant,,or better yet"won't" judge on the terrible suffering she has and does endure!

Most all the people I know question the existence of a "God" I'm always trying to improve on "my understanding of a higher power." So reading what you're thinking helps in my learning, and is a great benefit to me!

Pain and suffering are a part of our lives. An extreme situation like hers is only so ib quality...not substance. We do not get to judge what someone deserves or doesn't. I could no more judge what your life merits any more than you could mine.
The God I believe gave me a will and as was once said, "The price of action is indescribable." Sometimes the cost is a slap on the wrist...other times its the removal of same. This young woman will find meaning and peace in her own suffering...with the grace and strength that can only be given by her Maker.
I hope I don't have to suffer like that to appreciate everything else.

I guess my point was to say no one deserves these types of things to happen, as far as a "this happened - so that will happen". The questions were my way of demonstrating that I think there is no way this happened to her because she "sinned" at some point in her life, and was being punished. I'm probably not explaining it very well. Maybe this will help: My mother is a great one to say "What goes around, comes around". While I would never presume to argue with my mother, I don't agree with her on that one. I think a lot of things that happen in our lives are pretty random.

randal, thanks for your thoughts too. This is an open discussion forum, and I've enjoyed reading everyone's comments and opinions, many times. The good, the bad, and the ugly. A lot of negative and positive. I have refrained myself from joining in very much, until just lately, have posted here and there, when I feel compelled to do so. On this particular topic, I definately felt compelled, and maybe ran on a little longer than usual. Like many others here, and all over, my own life has been painfully and irrevocably altered due to drinking and driving. Not me, but someone very close to me. One of the very difficult parts of it has been the absolute finality of it. There is no going back, no changing, no "do overs". No chance to fix it. It's a tough pill to swallow, and I've been doing it for 18 years. So yeah, this video touches a little too close to home for me, and I should have just passed it by.

We often interpret what comes our own way as random; but, its source may not have been random. The consequences are indescribable as some may be natural (accidents like stumbling, droppoing something, etc)or intentional (like someone acting on us out of anger, punitive reasons and even love.)
I think it may not be ours to determine if, in someone else's life, what they get is a natural consequence of their thoughts and actions or an intentional step by God to punish and/or reward them. We have a hard enough time doing that in our own lives.

Appears that people have stopped drinking and driving since doing so is committing suicide. If you're caught...mandatory death sentence... thus the suicide factor. I drove drunk 1 time when I was younger and realized when I made it home, I would never do that again...since I couldn't believe I made it there alive. I always have a designated driver or I choose to be the designated driver. I have also called a tow truck to tow me home. It was $75.00 but considering the cost of a ticket, fines, insurance rate going up, possible suspension of my license, attorneys fees, bail, etc.the possibility of maiming or killing people.... the tow truck is extremely inexpensive.. I even tipped the driver $10... beats given it to the attorney.
So yes...I think the penalty should be death...perhaps more people would think twice before they drink and drive. By the way, should they execute before for drinking and driving...it should be done by hanging or public stoning to death...in a public square...captured on video and then posted on Glumbert.
