Ask anyone in a band (while the drummer isn't standing around), they're easily the least important member, they have easily the most simple instrument to play, and other then the strong bond of friendship created by being in a band, they could be replaced in a heartbeat.

I'm not musical myself but I know a couple of things and what you just said about anyone being able to hit something to a rhythm may be true, but rarely can a person co-ordinate themselves so well. If you feel the need to slate talented people because they can do things that you can't, go somewhere else because we'd rather not hear it.

i'm in a band and trust me everyone in a band is equally important, vocallists, can be replaced as easily as any member in the band can be, trust i've gone through that, i'm a drummer and i have been replaced, and i have had to replace different members, the strong personal connection is needed there so we stay a band, if there is tension, even if they have great talent the band will never work out.
I'm assuming your the type of guy who listens to rap, the REALLY talented music. You are awesome... I invite you to try drumming sometime. Look up a drum tab, and compare it to guitar tab. Look up Rush's 'YYZ' and hear some real drumming by Neil Peart. Try it yourself if you're not as big of a pussy as you seem in your comments. Let me know how that goes.

i am a drummer with 10 years of experience now...7 of those years i took lessons...can you read the notation for drums not just actual beats on the trap set but for snare, timpani, etc? i mean were not just talkin about banging around here

Everybody's slamming hossrex, ok, he's entitled to his opinion. We all are. My boyfriend of seven years is in a band (a couple of bands, several since his youth), his 3 sons play guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and do vocals, between them. He plays guitar, bass, keyboard, and does vocals. I've been on the sidelines for seven years, observing. My opinion, no drummer, no band. No drummer, no song. Learning how to properly blend with the band, lead the rest of the band members, set the tone and speed, with the drums takes years to do properly, and some built-in talent. There is nothing simplistic about it. All aspects of percussion are intricate, and integral.
A drummer is easily replaced though, I've seen it happen. But so are guitarists and keyboard players and vocalists. Anyone can be replaced.
The bottom line is, some people can do it, and some can't. Some are musically talented and some aren't. Whether it's drums or guitar doesn't matter. If you got it, you got it.
Well, much discussion. I look forward to seeing video of hossrex playing the drums. Perhaps the solo at the end of this video. I mean, with the talent he obviously has he should have no problem backing up the useless talents of this young man. If that is too much to ask maybe we can get a sample of his incredible guitar talents. I'm not sure we will get to see any of that though. Talkers usually aren't walkers.

the guitar now, that is one simple, easy-to-learn instrument, even more useless of an instrument than the drums. also, i hear the gays usually play the guitar, sliding their meaty fingers up and down that slick-backed guitar neck, like it was some kind of giant phallus.
