It's not so much what you "tell" them as much as what you "show them" by example, like how you treat your spouse, or "significant other", how you react in traffic when that asshole cuts you off, how you communicate with others, do you spew racism or show tolerance. Take them places, do things together, they WILL become you one day. "The apple never falls far from the tree" so for better or worse, knowing your life's accomplishments or mistakes, you CAN move the apple!

I think the kids lives would be improved by limiting how much TV and junk the parents watch as well. Children watch and learn, and the parents are the living primary example of how they learn to live, and think, and act.
In America children are no longer treated like children, or even allowed to BE children anymore. I don't mean talking down to them, but allowing them to BE A CHILD, and the parents BEING ADULTS.
Pods...you and I are in unusual agreement here. Having spent the last 15 years as a professional athletic coach of children and adolescents, I have come to some very sad conclusions:
We are not raising kids into adulthood...we are passively putting them into the world of adults and hoping for the best.
They are oversexualized long before they are able to understand or appreciate the goods and bads of human interaction.
The TV is only one of the "babysitters" passively employed by mothers and fathers to help raise the children.
The market vis a vis the mass media drives this ethos, not tradition, not religion, not education.
Kudos to Dove for at least trying not to conform to the traditional stereotypical cosmetics advertising strategy of preying on feminine insecurities. They have done some decent ad campaigns along these lines recently.
However as a Unilever brand do be aware they are not a charity and are simply taking a more honest approach to locking consumers into their own product range.
It is still down to securing that customer share, it's just being done in a way which consumers will perceive to have greater integrity.

Luckily this thread is done, but i want to put this down anyhow, my daughter is only 5, but on the beach i see them, they look through sunglasses that they think conceal them, they give themselves up when they adjust their beach chair to orient on my daughters??????It makes me sick, but what do i do? Destroy my daughters beach memories for this brood.....we are human, we are sick, there is no fix, so too I brood.
