wait a minute that's not donny osmand is it???? he should have done it with marie strapped to his back however, maries net tonnage may have exceeded the tensile strength of the rope and they both would have plunged to their deaths ... nevermind...
Fair point Pods, some of the extreme sports I can kinda get (that wing-suit base jumping vid, bungee over water in a beautiful landscape, freefalling etc) but I think Osman took it a step further, and too far
He wanted to replicate the feeling of falling off the cliff to your death which some suggest he enjoyed more than climbing hence his swap away to jumping... I think this was foolhardy although admittedly groundbreaking
You know the saying 'the way out west is strewn with pioneers with arrows in their backs'? Guess he got an arrow...
Whenever I see someone living that sort of life I'm both envious and sad for them. It would be nice to live that sort of exciting life and to do those unbelieveable things but it is typically short lived. Most of them die a tragic death of some sort. It's a beautiful thing while it lasts though.
"what a rush?" I'm sure this guy doesn't want to die, but with a family he has a respos'blty to them, big ball are a subs't for brains, but theu don't pay for your kids college.
"when you die we split your gear"
"At least he didn't die at work typing in his cubicle."
No, instead he died fearfully, surrounded by strangers and tourists. He died because he took a fall on gear he'd left up in the elements during a brief incarceration.
People in cubicles DO have noble causes sometimes, even if they perform in less than noble settings.
That goes before "thrill-seeker", and "risk-taker", and "death-wisher", but not terribly long before them. I take it DO was DOA at some point after these videos...who's surprised?
And if "cajones" was meant to mean "balls", as in "brave", then this video is mislabeled. He wasn't brave, he was arrogantly stupid.
I admire adult behavior, even if it needs to happen in a cubicle...responsible, mature stuff. I would not like kids to see this stuff as it was presented...making him out as some sort of hero. He was self-absorbed, caring only for his thrills, and the bragging that comes with them.
Stupid. Pointless.
On the other hand, it does support the Darwin concept, no? Perhaps an award is in the offing....?
He thrived for the rush, knew the price and paid it without hurting anyone else. Whats the problem? He should have given himself a false pretense like "I jump to shed light onto the issue of Spotted Owls" or some other endangered species. Then you pansies complaining about this would be applauding.
The man who jumpeth from cliffs is a stupid man,
His brain it is small, his heart is full of haughtiness.
Yea, he has been smashed by the lord our God,
Who punishes all those who fly in his face.
moron
Statistically speaking, you're more likely to die by cow, jet, car, or murder than this type of activity....but on the other hand, 97 percent of statistics are made up....
thats because only a few people like to jump off cliffs. Cows? I hit two with a car in VT 1964, just north of rutland, chasing some girls to a party, the cop on the scene had giving me two tickets that same night. Once he knew I wasn't injuried, he laugh his ass off. So I guess cows would be correct.
The video does not address this issue so you raise a fair point, unless by 'drawers' they refer to the ridiculous shorts he appears to like wearing...?
It was not only banks in the U.S. that freely loaned money over the last few years, but also those in India, and not surprisingly, many of their debtors have recently run into trouble making payments. Indian banks, inexperienced at collecting from so many defaulting consumers, often prefer to hire "goondas" (thugs) to settle debts the old-fashioned way, according to a January Wall Street Journal report. Though iron-bar beatings are frowned upon, some bankers say it's their only recourse because of the numbingly slow pace of the Indian legal system. [Wall Street Journal, 1-8-08]
Ahhh a return to the good old days of debt recovery. India, with it's up to date banking systems and enourmous rates of child mortality (female) must be held up as the paragon of future superpower virtue.
700 million people in India have no toilets in their households and defecate in the open or in buckets
India is not the US, we have the same crap with a different name.
Rats are high in protien, and help keep the streets clean.
People, mostly brit piss in the streets of Dublin.
Indians wash six times a day. and most have skin americans spend mil$$$$ons to have.
Ya know... so what if he died? He did things that any of us would never try... he broke rules and boundaries and set new limits. He made the world a better place by doing crazy stuff... if nothing else we can live through him vicariously.
Of course he died. He died doing what he loved. Good for him. He did not live a mediocre life. Good for him.
The woman who married him knew he would probably die doing that kind of stuff eventually... I hope they had life insurance.
wolf, you're right, some don't ever get out of their comfor zones, but he had a family. Growing up without a father was the hardest thing I've done, it's not fair, it's a dysfunctional being that doesn't think of anyone less themselfs.
Big bad, if you've ever seen me on here, you know I rarely disagree with anyone. And I do so now respectfully. But, yeah, it was a big deal that he died. He's dead. His family grieves, and always will. And what did he set new limits for? Ten people in a world of millions who would even want to do what he did? He did not make the world a better place, he just proved that he was addicted to the "rush". If he had any hope of making the world a better place, it would have been to make a bigger attempt to raise his kids.
He didn't live a mediocre life, that's true. What he lived was a life bordering on insane. There is a reason 99.9% of the population avoid such activities as this. And I can't imagine anyone insuring him.
There's no evidence that chumm and gods are women, other than the fact that it says they are on their Glumbert profile. If a person signs up to Glumbert, they can use any email address they like - it doesn't have to be a real one, put down any old birth date, and say they are whichever sex they like. It's the same on any site. For instance, I checked out adolf, and it says he's 33! Surely he should be 110 or something!
Hey AF, think we're all fully aware of how one can manipulate an online persona.
"There's no evidence that chumm and gods are women, other than the fact that it says they are on their Glumbert profile"
Erm... from where I'm sat that could be construed as some kind of (albeit uncorroborated) evidence surely...
Just needs honesty on the part of Gods to voice their gender if they're not what they say they are on their profile. To be honest it doesn;t matter really. Gods could be hermaphrodite for all I care. He/she'd still be funny
The fact that Chumm has previously self-proclaimed to be an orgnisation comprising a number of people is also evidence enough for me. This unfortunately has not helped their collective intelligence. They like to call people 'girls' as if it's an insult so I simply return the favour...
To chuck & mako, You both have to go to india, no welfare system, largest gnp growth. India does not import oil, steel, & they grow their own food. There is no shortage of water .In India if you don't work of beg you don't eat. Their legal system is as convaluted as the english system better than the american system . Where the poor fall through the cracks..
India created camasutra. Before the colonist , it was 16 countries each with a rajha . I have motor cycled frm the southern tip to nepal frm Mumbia to Calcutta. Some of the most beatiful sights that i have seen are in india. Yeah lots of people in your face but most ok . Toilets are holes in the floor with foot wells to put your feet in while you stoop to make a movement . Doctors say that is the best way to void yourself. Crime is not major just petty. India will change your prospective on life, live a lot, go there! AND IT IS NOT EXPENSIVE TO LIVE.
Been already, many times, admittedly only to Mumbai and Calcutta on business and Candolim on holiday, and have to say I agree with much of what of what you say. The people I have met and worked with there (and Indians in other parts of the world) have been great, bright people. It is an astonishing place and growing VERY fast; perhaps too fast.
But those facts remain - abject filth abounds due to lack of basic sanitation!
Whatever the best way to 'void' oneself may be, lacking any decent sewerage system to get rid of whatever you void ain't a good thing.
It's not HOW you shit, it's WHERE you shit and WHAT HAPPENS to that shit afterwards thats the issue. Until they can sort that the place will be held back by squalor and disease
The rate of child mortality is another are you cannot walk away from. India by far and away takes the lead against all other 'super power' nations when it comes to child mortality (although it's neighbour Pakistan beats it - I thought Karachi was a sad, sad place)
gymyg -
the profiles only began when the names changed colour to blue. You didn't have to post a profile - Glumbert use the info you gave when you signed up to create one.
mako100, regarding your statement on child mortality and the Asian continents. UNESCO ,doctors without borders & other organizations of this ilk are pouring $$$$$$$$$$$$$ .As you know the real problem is the ignorance & the wives tales of false hoods that have been passed down from one generation to another. When in Thailand my wife & i tried to buy children from whore houses to bring them back to their families ,we were told don't waste your $ they were sold by the families & will be sold again after you leave. When we travel in these countries it usually by motor bike so we get away from the main tourist areas to see the real life styles of the people . Its so easy to go to a country stay in a hotel get a tourist book and do the high spots. That way you get to smell not taste the life of these countries. We are very lucky to be able to experience another lifestyle and time when we go to India and surrounding countries. India does not have the hate for white people like Pakistan , Lebanon.
Yup agreed, millions are being poured in with little in the way of results yet still mortality is still enormous and the generational issues still exist and perpetuate the mortality. Fair?
Once these dollars you talk of actually start having an effect then maybe things will change. When will that occur and how/where are they being spent?Currently these dollars have little or no effect on the people that it would matter most to. That is the way of the world I guess.
They do need to stop shitting in the streets though. That would be a basic start perhaps?
Regards travelling in Thailand - I am intrigued as to where you were when you and your wife were trying to buy children?
Whilst this practice no doubt still exists as a trade, as it does in India, Bangladesh, China, Laos, Cambodia among others (including western nations), for a husband and wife team to be trying this in a country which is 'renowned' for it, and consequently has tried ('tried' being the key word as there are many vested interests it seems) to ensure systems are in place to prevent it, suggests you are willing to take significant risk.
By the way this risk will include a LARGE network of expats who will willingly and quietly slit the throats of cunts who perpetrate these acts.
Suggests to me that you were in some pretty shady places.
Mako it is very hard for us to travel & not try to help . We are blessed with having so much . That is why we will buy a pump for a Nepali village so the females of the village don't have to walk an hour each way to get water. It is so insignificant to us,but so large to that village . We have brought medical equipment that was salvage in Toronto but can save lives in Asia. I am far from a saint but my wife taught me how to share.
You are right I have had people warn me not to go to various villages & I have listened to them . One thing I do before I go is take intense hand to hand combat training in defence of knife & club attacks. I have only had to use these skills once . Some times when we go it seems all you meet are the cunts and a lot of them are officials and police. The world is sooooo different in Asia . Thats why the Benladen's and the brotherhoods of hate abound . We have to get our politicians to review our immigration acts.
Mako sorry I had something to do. To finish this ,in my view women & children are exploited by this kind of person . The biggest problem in the 3rd world is indentured slavery. Millions of poor desperate individuals are fucked over by their over lords.
Here is a little story that will make you cry . I befriended a beggar who's parents twisted & broke his legs while he was an infant 20 odd years ago , so he would be able to beg. I was sitting having breakfast in a restaurant in Mumbi when I first met him . I offered him a cup of tea and some of the bread i was eating . The restaurant owner refused to have a lower cast person in his restaurant. So I took my chair and table out side and bought this man breakfast. It turned out we had breakfast for 2 weeks. This man showed me the under belly of Bombay[Mumbi]. Thank the higher being that we don't live like this & have opportunity to grow & live a better life than our ancestors.
This poor man was given the equivalent of 5 years salary ,to film his life. A life of a beggar living on a skate board. He wanted to have a little pan shop[tobacco] to create a better life for himself
. The one thing most people don't know the poor in India take cheap drugs. The reason, the drugs stop hunger. This beggar was smoking the dragon [heroin] to stave off the desperation & poverty .Twice a day he felt alive , happy & well. After the Dutch film crew gave him his money the equivalent of $1500 Canadian. His bastard dealer gave him a hot shot & he died . His money was stolen . When I returned to Bombay & month later I was told the whole story .I have cried for this poor sole for many years, that is one of many stories of the 3rd world......................India,Pakistan, that's why the shit in the streets.
