it's not so disturbing to watch as it is to conceive. In our minds the cobra is a vicious, nasty thing from movies and books. So watching it attack a little itty bitty cute baby is SOOOO terrible. But in other cultures, they aren't demonized like in ours. I would love to think this could actually educate people, but nah, people don't want to learn. They only want to react, and I understand their empathy, but don't agree with it.
And the kid wasn't even phased by it. He wasn't crying or terrified or anything. He was cute though.

Kid is being trained to become a snake charmer, therefore being exposed to snakes from a young age so that he has no fear of them. Being a Snake Charmer is prestigious in some countries, it shows power over the animals, it can also earn quite a bit. So despite our western sensibilities, this is a perfectly normal thing to do for people in those countries, and things like this will have been going on for centuries. Get over yourselves. Simply because people have a different way of life does not mean it is wrong.
I don't think parents have anything to do with this, it sounds like there's just stupid kids in the background. maybe someone had a pet defanged cobra that made them feel like they weren't a pussy and they thought it'd be funny to toss it at a baby. I'd do it too, it's not like it's got fangs and it's not like the baby was going to remember who thew a cobra at it.

Wow, it's amazing to see the ignorance of western civilization gleaming in its brightest of comments on here. Some people just don't seem to understand that cultures are DIFFERENT. The west is scared of snakes and considers them Oh so evil because of Christian Mythology that tells us the first evil showed it self to man in the form of a Talking Snake. We also have movies as to why snakes are bad and just a simple fear derived from all our western cultures ways. We have our little taboo's and they don't have the same ones. Other cultures see unveiled women as taboo where as we see it as a common normality. We see a child and snake together as taboo and they see the opposite. It's all a matter of perception through your cultural traditions. No one has the ultimate right here to establish if this act is right, wrong, perverse, or normal. It's all in perception of what you establish as right or wrong for yourself.

I'm English and about 7 months ago a WHITE women and a WHITE man were sent to prison for RAPING a 12 WEEK OLD BABY, yes thats right 12 WEEKS OLD. I think i have put my point across very well, I'm so sick and tired of racists, if a person who is not white and not from an English speaking country and they commit a crime or do something horrible its because there a bad person, it is not because they are black or Asian, there just bad people.
Agree - it's got nothing to do with race, like i said below - westerners leave their kids in rooms with dogs that are capable of killing them in an instant, and yet know that they won't, so it's fine. In this case, it's supervised, and I'm sure the parents are confident that no harm will come to their child, or else why would they do it?
In my experience, no parent would put their child in a dangerous situation. The jovial sounds in the background suggest that this is a cute, benign and SAFE experience. It IS scarry to watch. But, I agree with previous posts that this has to do with MY cultural bias.

If the cobra had any teeth, I most certainly would agree. The fact that these people have ripped its teeth out, place it with something twice its size, and stand around when it is clearly in distress at the curious animal coming towards it, is to me a little worse.
I think it is interesting to see how the baby reacts to it. It isn't at all worried, because the cobra strikes are totally harmless. Ever seen a westerner leave a toddler in a room with their pet dog? Of course. And the dog probably still has teeth.
Just hope the kid doesn't grow up being too used to snakes, or it might try to do the same with one that hasn't had its fangs torn out. That would be tragic, I think.
Different culture, we shouldn't judge, we should learn from this... bullshit. As a Californian from a very liberal town, I've lived my life buying into that crap. Someday, one day, we all need to step off the sidelines, grow some balls and pick a side. Decide what is right and wrong. Well this crap is wrong. Allowing a cobra to strike a baby is wrong. Intentionally putting a cobra in fear of its life where it feels it must strike is pretty stupid, too.
Now put those snakes on a plane and throw Samuel L Jackson into the mix? Bad ass! But a baby? No way.
