1. West African during the Middle Ages was one of the pinacles of human civilization. Mali, Songhai, Ancient Ghana, were all on par and in lots of ways superior in development than the rest of the world. The university of Timbuctoo was the most prestigious learning institute in the world.
2. Even though some tribes did sell their enemies, the majority of slaves came from raids by europeans, their were many tribes that were wiped out either fighting and dying to remain free or whole clans completely enslaved.
The irony is that many tribes that DID participate in the slave trade ended up being enslaved themselves.
3. people pointing to backward customs of some african tribes as being indicative of the whold continent.. Africa is HUGE about 4 times the size of the US with isolated tribes being so far removed from other tribes that they might as well be on different continents. What if we judged all white people by the likes of GW Bush? or the backward rednecks that hang nooses from trees?

i think there are alot of young people commenting on this site. i am a 38 year old women who was raised in the south. I have been called the N word once and only once by a pregnant lady in a drive thru who got pissed about her food coming too slow. I was 15 and I blame it on hormones and I let it go. i have had a few other situations that race was clearly a factor however for the most part race is not a huge factor in my life. Taxes, gas prices, stocks, job security, keeping the bad guys off the planes are what my concerns are. History is great, it can impower you and for that reason only it is important. Learn, Live and Love that's what it's really all about.

First, who are you people? And when does acknowledging documented historical (it's obvious that you are not enlightened or have no empathy) data speak for itself - no guilt transferred to your status.
Whether or not a republican or demorcrat is elected to the White House - no one worth their salt wants to pay cumbersome taxes for goverment programs. I say that in point because we all have our transgressions and should reconcile them as we know it (them).

If they know history, they would know that Caucasian people have been enslaving, raping, murdering and exploiting each other for thousands of years before African slavery. I am impresses with the history lesson I have recieved today. I never knew that people are still making certain comments about "getting over it" and about how we were created. You see I have learned by experience that when tell someone to get over something, it's usually something that you don't want to deal with because it's not you that is affected by the problem. I think about what my ancestors went through and yes it does hurt me and sometimes makes me angry, but you know what makes me even angrier that all that they have fought for and died for, I, as well as some other blacks have let them down. Yes we are still facing some racism, but we don't have to stooped down to what certain people expect of us. They expect us to fail and not amount to anything, and what do some of us do, exactly that. I am guilty of that and when I realized what foolishness I was apart of, I had to straighten up. Also if you went through what a lot of other races went through, then you wouldn't say get over it. See you have had to experience something as harsh as those races back then went through. And yes we cant do nothing about what happened then, but we can strive to make changes to prevent some things from occuring now. The most important thing now is that we have all races fighting a war together against a people who are not afraid to die for what they believe in so if you want to comment on anything, let's think of solutions and not add more problems ok?
