In small towns the big news is always a drug bust. In my town they got a big(?) dealer with 1/2 lbs, $280 and a deer gun. By the time it reached court, it was tons, millions and weapons. He got probation, what a waste of town funds and manpower.
We have a unsolved murder from 2000, a kid. You would think this would use up the resources, but no, it's the war on drugs.
When I was in college in Texas in the 60s, you could get life for pot, it really hasn't changed that much.
Hey gymyg in my town it was a five dollar fine, written up like a parking ticket! I have no problem with pot smokers it undeniably should be legalized, I have NEVER had a problem with a pot head, just those f-ing drunks LOL! I have many friends that died of drinking, be it drunk driving, hit by a drunk, one was murdered by a drunken fool, I have several friends that are alcoholics, one is dying of pancreatic cancer (they say most likely from heavy alcoholism) and on and on it goes...now for the pot angle...not one person I know has any problems resulting from years and years of smoking the stuff and I know big pot heads in very "high" places! I heard or read the other day that if all the pot "criminals" were let out of prison there would be a surplus of cash and space in the prison system and the millions upon millions of dollars used to pursue and prosecute those pot types could be used to go after "real" criminals.
In my mind how the heck could tobacco and alcohol be legal (without even a prescription) and pot not be? Isn't it ironic!
The prison business IS VERY BIG business. Hence everything we do is a felony, no matter how minor. Its a numbers game, and the legislatures are a big part of the business.
Murderers don't really count, percentage wise, so they are not worth the effort.

Lets not forget that the pharmaceutical industry relied heavily on Afghanistan's production of opiates. There are so many opiate derived drugs that a large supplier is necessary, and the opium based drugs are their best sellers.
