Well really! This can hardly be classed as dancing, surely? Acrobatics - perhaps. A feat of strength - maybe. A celebration of youthful exuberance - possibly. But these movements bear no resemblance to the dance moves I learned when we were taken to the neighbouring girls' school to practise our steps with the pupils there. Go look under that video clip of Kanye West freaking out, as well. Look at some of the comments underneath it. Didn't even see NEAR the same outrage there, as I've seen above.

I wrote my own opinion about this philosophy under the last Michael Moore thread, in a post to Podman. Skidmarks is by no means the first to voice this view, and it has some merit. But now that someone has yet again said it, I'll answer to it, based on MY own circumstances:
Being a shift-worker, this has tremendous advantages for me; my "Saturdays" and "Sundays" tend to fall in the middle of the week; afternoons, nights, days, all rotating. Take today, for instance: wifes at work, kids are in school (which some brainiacs above couldn't figure out), and therefore this is a little bit of "down-time". But is THAT enough? For me? No. Is the Internet enough? No. For me, there's gotta be something more, beyond the usual family/work endeavours. And here it is (pay attention, Stalkers....this is another crumb I'm tossing you here):

And I'm currently in rehearsal for my up-coming next production, due to open Nov. 8, running for several weeks. It's called "Communicating Doors", by Alan Ayckbourn.
And I've been in a lot of them: King Lear; Macbeth; Othello; other works of Shakespeare....dark dramas...British farces...American comedies....you name it (although one of my personal favourites over the years was playing a Marine, Capt. South, in a comedy called "The Amorous Ambassador"; Neil Simom comedies are another favourite---"Odd Couple", stage version). When I wrote my piece under the Helen Keller thread, I was dropping clues left-and-right as to why that clip struck a chord within me, but just didn't want to come out and say-so, simply because I felt it wasn't pertinent to anything at the time. Now, I feel it is. S9lecomp came the closest, when he said I indulge in "theatrics", and he was more correct than anyone else, in ways he didn't realize.
So, there you go. I think a lot of folks here DO "have a life", and this business on the Net and/or Glumbert, is just a time-waster; and a small minority do NOT (I think they're obvious).
i can't leave glumbert alone, but i've had a re-think, i actually enjoy posting on here, who am i to say it's sad, is good to express your opinions and as we are on the internet and not at some snotty dinner party, you can really express your opinion without the real concern of upsetting people.

I have dabbled in amateur dramatics in my time, mainly in the village Christmas pantomime, where I was usually coerced into playing the dame. I cannot imagine why!
After a few rehearsals, I came to quite enjoy the feeling of the corsets and brassieres, and soon became comfortable in the role. Having to elevate my voice to carry off the female part was a little more difficult, but with practice, one can manage just about anything.
Have you ever played a female role? And did you enjoy so doing? Do tell.
BUT...in a play called "It Runs In The Family", which was a a farcical-comedy, I played young doctor in a hospital, who had to disguise himself as a female, to ditch the cops on his tail.
You know, something I've forgotten about message boards, because I've sort of quit participating, is that no one is ever wrong about anything. We're all the protagonists of our own dramas and those who disagree with us are villains or clowns, either to be defeated or marginalized.
Perhaps, I was a bit strong handed in calling canuck a racist. I work with kids that look a lot like the kids in this video. they participate in step-dancing, competitive hip-hop dancing, and love teaching each other new moves. It is their fellowship and a community they find a home within. They neither subscribe to the criminal subculture nor participate directly in crime.
So, yeah, maybe I'm a little hyper-sensitive when I feel like I've spotted narrow minded label making.

We all have our little "things" that nake us who and what we are; for instance, my kid brother from a tyoung age, was always into "fixing things", or dabbling with tools of some kind. Now, he owns and operates his own auto repair shop, and is ready to open up another branch; plus, he's got other business ventures on the go. This left him with enough lattitude to accomplish becoming a qulaified helicopter pilot, which is yet another extension of his "tech-minded" habits. As for me, I was always the philosophical rebel; I questioned things; I looked for under-laying reasons behind "cause-and-effect"; I drove my teachers crazy, by simply asking and/or debating world poilitics/philosophies; people around me always went crazy, trying to figure out why thngs ARE, and where things will GO; but I always looked for answers in history, whether it be in a dusty old textbook, or a collection of Greek tragedies. This led me to a basic question: can I change the world for the better? Prolly not. BUT.......
I can sure at least add my two-cents worth.
So I've come full-circle, and decided to actually do something that I think might benefit my community as a whole...and society in general. Law enforcement seemed the best bet. Or so I believe. Sometimes, of course, that belief is severly taxed; once, I asked a prisoner why he pried open his lovers skull with a claw hammer; he responded with an answer I'll leave YOU to interpret; he said, "The sperm whale is the biggest mammal on the face of the earth, but it only has a throat the about the size of fuckin' hole I make with my thumb and index finger. I like jazz. Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Roland Kirk, Gilad Atzmon. In fact, anyone who composes/composed, plays/played with originality and class is worth listening to.
I like classical music too, as you would expect. Mahler, Sibelius, Bruckner, and of course the holy trinity of Bach, Mozart and Schubert. Beethoven I find a little too self-obssessed and depressing. Some of the modern composers are mildly interesting - the Scotsman Macmillan springs immediately to mind as one to watch for the future.
On the popular front, I confess to a guilty pleasure in the work of Britney Spears. Oops I Did It Again - particularly when accompanied by the marvellous video - is Uuuuuuuuurgghgghhhhh! Ceeeeeghhhhhh! Blooooooooopppp!

And maybe Robert Alagna could be the third...have never heard him, but has been reported to be exceptionally good.

You know, recently I've come to not hate most of this comment nonsense as much as I used to. But this petty bickering quickly drags whatever redeeming qualities emerge from this 'forum' far far out of sight.
throbstick may be obsessed with c-dizzle, but he (C) is a polarizing character and his theatrics draw people's ire as readily as he draws other's praise. He knows it and is quite content with the show he puts on. No problems there.
The real hypocrisy comes from comes from those that EVERY BIT AS OBSESSIVELY flame and respond to every post that throbstick makes against canuck. You can't go around and gang up on a guy with insults and cries of obsession when every time he posts you're there doing the exact same f-ing thing to him. I've got nothing against you guys and I'm sure that I've enjoyed reading some of your other comments but you've got to give it up, or else get off the high horse waving the "throb's obsessed" banner.
The question of if throb's comments and opinions (be they about the video or about someone's comment on the video, even if it is almost always canuck) have as much validity as anyone else's comments and opinions on here is a topic for a different time. If you agree with him or not doesn't change the point above.
