If elected do you think Obama will be assasinated by some angry racist redneck?
God forbid it every happened (to anyone) but the 1st black president being assasinated would cause rioting in this country that would make the LA riots look like an amusement park ride.
I'd rather vote for Obama and risk riots or whatever. Than to have McCain die in 2 years and have Palin running the show. Her far far (out of the park) right views dont sit well with me. Christians like her scare me.
I've seen Obama without notes or a teleprompter or anything, taking questions from the audience, (my coworkers, so not plants,) speak for an hour and a half... But I suspect he'd gotten more sleep the night before then, than he did when this video was shot.
For all you detractors; sit and watch McCain stumble his way thru world politics or geography(he thinks Spain is in So. America) and let's hear you how you excuse it. He never has a 'town meeting' w/o prepared questions or note cards since he has the mind of a slug.
Even though that wuz a shot at muh man Barack, that wuz STILL actually kinda funny! LOL!
But I'll tell ya this much, though......if...and I'm saying IF....McSame wins, there's gonna be a resurgence like there was on '04, when Georgie-Boy won his second term, wherein all of the "blue states" wanted to to say "Fuck it! We want to join Canada, and become provinces."
Only if THIS happens.....I hope we get Maine. It's a shore-'nuff purdy state, plus it's where S.K. lives.
Hmm I see what you%u2019re trying to convey but I think you%u2019re getting over zealous on the %u201CHate Bush%u201D band wagon. To be honest I am sure Obama, McCain, Bush and Dick probably have better public speaking then you %u2026
I don't hate president Bush, I just think he's a bad speaker. Not like Reagan, Clinton, or even Obama. Communicating with the American public is part of the job, but not the most important part. I think I could smoke Bush in a debate. ;-)
Captial gains tax typically applies not to the corporations (except for banks and they will not pay any tax for a long time...) but to those who own them, the shareholders. Raise the capital gains tax and investors will try to move somewhere else.
Actually it is not easy to answer what a government should do in a recession, maybe staying out of the way as much as possible is a good idea. Besides installing control mechanisms that prevent such as the current situation from coming up at all.
Now bug, that was a perfectly logical and republican response. There's hope for you yet.
Canuck, raising the capital gains tax doesn't hurt the big corporations, it hurts the investors. Often those investors are working stiffs buying company stock, and maybe selling it when their kids need to go to college or they need to buy a shiny new Prius. Or they are big rich investors, that simply decide to invest somewhere else, which only hurts the American economy.
So as a Canadian, you don't get to vote for Obama eh? That's a shame.
helldiver, don't associate me with any political party, they all suck. Especially conservatives, they do things because they always did them, no thinking, no logic.
Politics trying to steer economy does always fuck up big time. The only thing politics have to do is install control measures to keep corporations from running wild.
In the current case of the criminal banks (they did not miscalculate, they did willingly accept a potentially catastrophic outcome for short term gains) any bail out of a bank by a government should include seizure of that bank. Get the tax payers money back by selling the bank after it has been stabilized.
If that is done a couple times, how fast do you think the share holders of the remaining banks will make sure their executives do a proper job?
Bug, I don't assosciate myself with a political party. I'm conservative. Sadly the republicans are too socialist, and pander to the religious right. I fully agree the government should stay out of the economy, and the government is responsible for our current economic problems. Conservatives don't do things as they always were without thinking. Conservatives know that progressive government programs are expensive, wasteful, and only grow the government. Conservatives want the government to live within a budget, be efficient, and as small as possible. That is true thinking, or maybe just common sense.
With the propose bailout, the government is acquiring 80% share of any bank taken over, and theoretically could even end up being profitable for taxpayers, but I'm sure the government will find a way to fuck it up.
And Canuck, I'm one of those working stiffs, that owns maybe $50k in company stocks at this time. All purchased a little at a time through company stock purchasing plans for employees. Yet I as a small investor should be punished with higher capital gains taxes when I sell? All that does is make me (and everyone else) not invest my money in the stock market.
Can I speak to your wife please? She needs some brain-washing removed.
Canuck, pension fonds are also often based on stock. You would burden them too with additional capital gains tax.
As for the large scale investors: If you try to tax them too much they will move elsewhere and don't even dream you can stop them. The only result would be that less money is available in the market for companies to be founded or expanded, this equals to lower employment.
Actually quite some of the trouble we see in the financial markets is caused by capital gains taxes. To help their customers avoid the tax the banks are desiging ever more complex "products" (stupid word for a bank, the product they sell is money and they don't make that). One of these products were he sub-prime credit packages.
We see the same thing here in Germany. A new capital gains tax is getting into effect next year. Instead of being able to sell stock that you held for 12 months or more without paying tax on your gains, or if shorter pay based on your income tax, you will then have to pay 25% tax. If you are in an above average income range you get bombarded by the banks now with their latest "innovations".
It sounds like his wireless earpiece broke and not the teleprompter. These devices completely block the ear canal. If it breaks it's disorienting because you can't hear yourself talk and even worse if someone is talking to you on it at the same time. He even says at the end "I can't hear myself talk"!
It's a scary thought that he has someone behind the scenes feeding him facts and numbers.
