MS Excel? Its a pretty damn handy spreadsheet program for lots of things. Financial budgets, displaying test data, graphs, you name it. Engineers live and breath Excel.
Whoever created this has more wastable free time than Canuck.
Back when computers had no graphic displays it was quite common to code pictures into ASCII. Though there were several hurdles to do this, the first one was to get a picture into a computer, scanners were rare, the second was to have sufficient memory to store a picture.
